Adding fx or plugs to Freezed tracks ?

Hi guys

At the momment I like to play my guitar signal dry and send it through to my Vamp pro and then once I finish recording I can tweek to find a sound I like in the Vamp and then freeze to track and move on to the next guitar part useing the Vamp again.

I do the Same with my bass going in to the Bass Vamp

After freezing the track though I cant put anything in to the Fx bin so I have to Bus it out and then add anything I want on the Bus track.

Its not to much of a problem doing it this way I just wanted to know if I am missing something and I can actualy add Fx compression reverbs etc to the freezed tracks rather than on the Bus ?

One thing that would be nice to do is when I use Superior Drummer I always send each Drum mic overheads room mics etc  to individual tracks in Sonar but If I was to freeze the drum tracks I then cant work on them it would be cool to just freeze all the tracks then take Superior drummer out of the session and then just worl on the waves. but like I said its the same as the Vamp if I freeze the track I cant do anything in the Fx bin.

I could make a bus for each individual drum etc but I think that would be going over the top a bit and better to stick with Superior in the sessionand be able to use the FXbin

Same problem aswell for useing my voice works I use that the same so I can change efx from the voice works after I have done the vocals find a setting I like tweek it and freeze it then bus it out to add fx etc

Sorry if this comes across as a silly question but Ive been working like this for a few months now and I guess I was just hopeing to improve my workflow and make sure I wasnt overlooking something or doing something wrong

One Last Question........

Say for instance I have a blank session I load 2 tracks in to it and a master bus and a bus

I record a guitar part to the first track and then double track to the second.
If I send them to the Bus and put my Vamp on that bus is there anyway to freeze the sound that way ? Or has the vamp got to be on the track its self before I can freeze ?

The Cloneing the audio track will be the way forward for me I think then just mute then original and I know it will be there just incase I need to edit it :)

Any Ideas for freezing Multiple tracks at the same time for instance if I wanted to use the same guitar tone on 2 tracks rather than waiting the full lenghth of the song and then doing the next track ?

Set your freeze option to fast

Can that be done when freezing from out board gear ?

I set it to fast when freeing from a synth etc.....

freezing with the fast option works well for me.... it take all of 10 seconds.

I freeze one track at a time.... because I normally will record the next track next.

All my stuff is "in the box". I use no outside hardware. My midi keyboard is only a source of midi, noting is every played through it.

So I'm freezing the softsynths in the audio track inside the project.

It might be more work upfront, but a way around your problem would be to find & tweak the sounds you want from your V-amps and go with it! Record a part then move on to the next part, just dial up you next saved preset.

No bouncing needed. You can still EQ & compress & delay & add verb, chorus flange etc,

This is what I do with my Pod - I record a part with minimal Pod Fx, I try to get just the raw guitar tone nailed and process it inside Sonar.

I guess I should just stop over thinking it and saying to the person who is playing are you happy with the sound ? are you sure ? positive ?

Ok record and just record it with that sound then work on it that way as if I was recording from an amp

I guess I have a lot of bad habits I need to break away from

One trick is to select the frozen clip with the mouse and shift-drag it into a new audio track.  You can then continue working on it from there.  You can then unfreeze the old track and archive to keep as a backup if you later want to change anything.

Ive used Pods in the past but was never happy with them. I was very suprised by the Vamp pro for the price though.

I have Pod farm to use aswell but I tend to avoid it :)

Ive just been geting my self in the habit of recording recently useing 2 tracks one wet and one dry so I can change it if needs must

You didnt read the first post then ?

I cant fast freeze as I was saying since its from outboard gear.

So a 5 min tracks going to take 5 mins to freeze and to try plugs on top of that aint gona happen lol
