record clik track

Hi,
I am often asked to have a clik track audible in a cd that is being sent to another musician for practice prior to coming into the studio to record--is there a simple way to do this--in the past I have resorted to muting the project and playing it with only the clik audible while i record the click track-then I unmute the rest of the tracks and export it with the recorded clik in the mix--any easier way?

thanks

You could insert a Midi track that is output to a soft synth with drum sounds, like the TTS-1. Use the PRV to insert a note every beat for one measure. Use any drum instrument you want. Then Right click the Midi clip and select Groove Clip Looping. Then just drag the end of the bar to the end of the song. Adjust the track volume as needed. Because it is Midi it will follow any tempo changes in the project.

I've not tried it to confirm but you can route the metronome to a buss. Route the click to your master buss and export with the metronome enabled in playback mode?

Then just bounce 'what you hear'

I'll try and check this later and may be back to confirm / deny my speculations!

I use click tracks quite a bit and what I have done is to set up a midi track routed to my Yamaha keyboard where I can create whatever drum sound I want.  Then I'll just record the output to a separate audio track.  Then when I get ready to export to a .wav file for CD creation, I'll just include the click track.  I'm not in front of my DAW right now, but I don't see any reason why you can't route the metronome bus output to the main bus which could then be exported along with all the other audio.

Rothchild is correct. Simply route the metronome buss to the master IF you happen to have loaded a template that includes the Metronome as a buss. Not all templates show the metronome buss and lord help you try and find a way to add that if it isn't there. This is something I have never found a answer to. Anyone?
Why there is no simple toggle or routing option in the metronome control panel is a mystery. I guess it would be a feature request eh.

One of the options in the metronome properties is to select the buss you'd like it routed to. I think by default it will be routed to the master buss (and if no master buss is present probably to the first audio output) I know it's been an issue for some but I find it perfectly flexible and workable.

Must be a new thing, definitely not in Sonar 7, But then again sometimes they hide buttons in secret  places so it's like "wheres Waldo "
Like the show buss pane icon that's next to microscopic.

Sorry JohnnyV didn't clock your sig. Not sure when they patched it up but I guess it must have been post v7. 8.5 has buttons for the toolbar to enable disable metronome in record / playback and a shortcut for the settings page.

As I remember it previously it was accessible (and still is) through options / project.

You know you can grab the divider bar between the buss and track panes and move it up that way, you don't have to use the button.

    Cheers,

Hi - I've had the same question of recording the audio metronome (not midi - I've got that working fine), however I must be doing something wrong.

For clarity - you're saying do the following:
    1. Create a metronome bus (if one doesn't exist)
    2. In 'metronome settings', configure output to be the metronome bus in #1 above.
    3. Send the output of the metronome bus to the master bus
    4. Ensure 'metronome during playback' is enabled and export all audio.

I have the same problem when the audio metronome output is routed directly to the master bus as well - I hear the metronome during playback, however it's not there when I export audio to an .mp3.  Am I missing something obvious?

    Thanks
    Russ

sometimes the dirty simple way for me is just to record one in session drummer and freeze to export

I hate click tracks by the way!

Yep - midi or session drummer both work fine - I'm just trying to understand what I'm doing wrong to record the audio metronome into a rendered mp3.
