Jimmy's Tune - Dedicated to our buddy Jimmyman

I'd like to dedicate this song to our good friend Jimmyman, who is having some struggles right now.

This was written back in 2004.  I wrote all the music and played bass and all guitars and background vocals.  Lyrics and vocals are Rick Roland.  He asked me to write this for his demo CD to try to become a country western star.  The subject matter of this song was a friend of his named Jimmy who was a gifted musician struggling with some life issues.
When I learned of Jimmyman's plight I was reminded of this tune and felt it an appropriate tribute.

Hang in there Jimmy, you've got friends.

Edit:  I can't take any credit for the mix.  This was done in a studio owned by Dennis Gilley, nephew of the famous Mickey Gilley.  Dennis did the engineering, keyboard and drums.  We hired session musicians for the fiddle and pedal steel guitar.

He was definitely a dreamer, but he got remarried and and is completely content in his new life.  I'm glad to see he found his way.

Thanks for the dedication mark. As I'm listening to the production, mix and performance
I'm thinking wow that's very well done to the point of calling it impressive. Over half way
through the song I suddenly realized that the bass was panned a bit to the right. I find
that interesting in the fact that I was so intrigued by the great mix itself that I didn't
    notice that at first.

Not that the panning is a crit at all but the fact that "all else" was so well done.
For example I'm thinking nice Kick, nice snare, nice guitar, nice steel etc. as well as
a nice bass and then I went hey? the bass is panned. Interesting.

It might be because the strumming acoustic seems a bit to the left and the bass
to the right both being strong points of the "feel" of the mix.

This was a very impressive preformance and meaningful dedication song. I remember when we did the dedication song for Heinzs niece that died a couple years back. It is still on my soundclick site. But this one has words that lift the spirit and tells a story. Very nicely done with a great sound to it. Thanks for sharing. John

I like the song a lot and the mix is real nice. Some nnice double shuffle fiddlin' in there too. This could work as a country song, but to me, this sounds more like a an Eagles song with a fiddle added. Regardless, it is a great piece of work. Congrats Jimmy and Mark!!

I'm an top-fan of Jimmy's euphony and will be dedicating a personal song to this aspect of him.  (Mark you know its sprouting up)

Despite my 'hiding' from country frolick,

... I feel this song is extremely well performed (all vocs and instruments) and professional due to the timbre nuances and wide dynamics (ear candy).

Message / lyrics are fair and clearly give a cute story.  But the psychedia of melodies and counters by seasoned performers adds caliber and confidence to the melancholy celebration.  (Better than I could do)

This seems to have all the stereotypical country elements (including fiddle and pedal steel) with little bottom end.  Alas (pondering), country genre will remain country genre.  I'd rate this:

8.5/10 by today's lush standards.  Hypothesis: Increase the bottom end and vox compression (in the low freqs) to give both the vox and mix more blood.

TBH, I love Jimmy's originality and euphonies a bit more.  Jimmy's sincere vibe and style has particularly become the seasoned instrument worth my emulating.

I too heard Buffet in this tune. Guitar playing was terrific, Mark. Not sure what I can add, as with Philip, I don't venture into this type of genre all that often.

I will say this: it was worth it just to read another Jimmyman critique!  We luv ya, bud!

Sounded great to me, Mark, and what a nice idea to post it up again as a tribute to our Jimmy.  Everything was right there: solid playing all around, good vox and a really clear mix.  Good song too.  I got a little bit of country in me, and I really liked this.

Dude, PARROT COUNTRY!  Really nicely done.  Not what I expected from a Marcos69 tune. Nice surprise.   Instruments are so well done.  Nice mix and the vocals work with the tune.   Totally cool of you to dedicate it to Jimmyman.

Thanks Rhyno.  It was a great experience.  It helped raise the bar on the quality of my own recordings working with Dennis Gilley.

Thanks John.  I remember that song you dedicated.  I was proud to be part of it.

Thanks Scotty.  That fiddle player was wild man!  Since my lead guitar part was plugged direct into the console, I did it right in the control room.  The fiddle player kept jumping up and down on the couch and talking and yelling - anything to screw me up.  I never understood why either, I had just met him during that evening.  Dennis Gilley finally had to throw him out because it was taking me so many takes to do the lead.  Afterwards when we were listening to the take the fiddle player said of the solo "hey, that's pretty good.  I didn't see where you were going with it earlier".

    Thanks Tom, appreciate it.

    Thanks Big Steve.

    Thanks James.

    Thanks Grant.

    Appreciate it Reece.

Thanks Philip.  I didn't think the lyrics were real strong myself, but I can't do much better myself.

    Thanks James, appreciate the comments.

    Thanks Phil.

    Thanks Warren.

Nice tune, not my style (or yours really Mark!) So very well done, not quite sure why the bass was in my right ear, but there ya go. this'd be nice with Jimmy's smooth vox on it actually!
