How to nudge a clip

I was watching a ProTools video and they have the ability to nudge a clip a certain number of samples. They could set the number of samples to nudge by and then just slightly move the clip around until it felt right. Is there a way to do that in X1? Dragging it with the mouse is too haphazard for me in this case. I want to be able to just very slightly move stuff around a bit to see what effect it has on the feel. Is there a simple way to just nudge clips around by a predetermined amount without using the mouse to drag it around?

Yeah neiby, look in the help file for nudge and how to set it up.

    Nudge settings
To configure the three nudge settings, go to Edit > Preferences > Customization - Snap and Nudge or Process > Nudge > Settings.
To Nudge a Clip Left or Right
Use the following procedure to nudge a clip.
    1.
Select the clip you want to nudge.

    2.
Select Process > Nudge Left(1-3) from the menu to move the clip left or Process > Nudge Right(1-3) to move the clip right.

The amount the clip or note moves is determined by the settings in Edit > Preferences > Customization - Snap and Nudge.
To Nudge a Clip Up and Down
Use the following procedure to nudge a clip (in the Track view) or MIDI note (in the Piano Roll view) up or down.
    1.
Select the clip or note you want to nudge.

To Nudge a Clip Using Keyboard Shortcuts
    1.
Select the clip you want to nudge.

    2.
If necessary, turn on Num Lock (press the Num Lock key on your keyboard).

    3.
    Press the appropriate Num Key.

    2.
Select Process > Nudge > Up to move the clip or note up or Process > Nudge > Down to move a clip or note down.

Clips move up or down one track at a time. Notes move up or down one pitch at a time.
    To Change Nudge Settings
    1.
Select Process > Nudge > Settings to access nudge settings.

    2.
In one of the three Nudge groups, select one of the following:

Musical Time. Select a note length setting.

Absolute Time. Select one of the following absolute time options and a number in the first field:

Thanks! I was looking under how to move clips and didn't realize that it was also called nudge in Sonar. I guess I wasn't exactly Captain Obvious this morning.  :)

This is really cool!! I can set multiple nudge settings. I can set one to 100 samples for very granular movement, then I can set the others to large increments of, say, 200 samples and 500 samples or something like that. Then I can use the Num Pad to move the clip easily. Num 1 and 3 nudge left and right using the first nudge setting; 4 and 6 use the second nudge setting; and 7 and 9 use the third nudge setting.

    That's pretty cool. :)

I'm learning a lot this morning just doing something relatively simple. It's fun to actually learn this tool that I've owned for a couple of years.  lol

I went through a similar learning curve yesterday. I almost always start and end in MIDI but my wife and I found a song that we wanted to add some harmonies to (neither of us sing very well) so I set up a mic and we sang some bad harmonies then I spent the rest of the afternoon learning some audio stuff. Like you it was fun and added a few new tricks to my small tool bag of X1 knowledge.
