Please help: Sonar settings for USB output device

I'm trying to use Sonar Producer 7 outputting to a USB connected Lavry DA11 (DA converter).  I can't seem to come up with the correct combination of settings in Audio Options to make it work.

All other audio applications on the same computer work fine with this output configuration.

Any help would be deeply appreciated !

What version of Windows are you using? Does Windows recognize it when you connect it? If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows, you need to have a 64 bit driver for it.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition, with service pack 2.  Everything is 32-bit hardware and 32-bit OS.

Yes, Windows recognizes the Lavry DA11, and my other audio applications playback through it without any problems.

Go to Options-Audio-Drivers. Make sure its selected there. At Options-Audio-Advanced set the driver mode to ASIO or WDM, whichever works better.

Thanks for your help with this, Dave.

My drivers only show up when WDM/KS is selected as the driver mode. Drivers do not show up with ASIO selected.

Also, whenever I do select the USB driver, I get an Audio Driver Error, which says "the USB Audio Device driver does not support the current audio format, or is in use by another application."  It then gives you the options to either disable or use anyway.

    Not sure what to do.

I just googled your "interface" , seems to be a very hi end A/D/converter so might not be anything on Sonars list of what will work. Looks like all the users are into audiophile playback of normal music not DAW..

you could try down loading an asio driver..at asio4free..youll then have to arrange those settings..i dont want to lead you down the wrong path so...you may also want to check to see your da is recieving a singnal

Not sure it should matter whether it's handling playback from a DAW or from some other non-DAW audio application, like Windows Media Player for instance.  Sonar's audio settings are much more complex, but I would think it's just a matter of finding the correct settings.

"the USB Audio Device driver does not support the current audio format, or is in use by another application."

There's the relevant clue. Some other software may be preventing SONAR from connecting. First, turn on the "share drivers with other applications" option in Options -> Audio -> Advanced. If that doesn't do it, try disabling your onboard audio interface if you haven't already done so. Also make sure the Lavry is configured to match the sample rate and bit depth of your project.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

The DA does receive signal, because I can exit Sonar and get playback on other audio applications. It's just not receiving signal, aparently, from Sonar.

The "share drivers with other applications" option has been checked "on".  It has never been de-selected, as far as I know.
As far as the onboard audio interface, I assume you mean the one internal to the computer.  My settings in Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio have the Lavry DA as the default device, and I have checked the box for "Use only default devices" in the same OS settings window.

I still get the same Audio Driver Error (quoted above) when starting up Sonar, the transport cursor does not scroll (no playback), but all my other non-Sonar audio application play back correctly.

    Windows OSThe
AD11 appears as a “Microphone” in the OS SOUND/RECORDING control panel when connected via
USB. There are important settings in the Microphone PROPERTIES section, including sample frequency.
4.) The AD11 can work with many audio recording programs using the WDM driver. However, PT9
requires ASIO drivers, so it is recommended that ASIO4ALL be installed for operation with PT9. It can
also “streamline” use with other ASIO compliant software, as well (confirmed to work with WaveLab).
5.) ASIO4ALL allows the USB connected AD11 to function simultaneously with a USB connected DA11 in
PT9. Some care is needed in the ASIO4ALL “Advanced Option” settings to eliminate conflicts with internal
sound devices; but operation is reliable once these settings are correct.
Due to the nature of the USB interface, it is necessary to set the SOUND control panel
RECORDING/MICROPHONE PROPERTIES/ADVANCED tab sample frequency setting to match the PT9 SF.
It is also recommended that the AD11 SF be set to match the PT9 session SF.

this is from the manual for the Lavry. IOW it doesn't have its own ASIO driver, so you have to use WDM/KS. if so you'll have to profile the Lavry first. or try ASIO4ALL as said above.

OK, it seems like it's all working now.
I loaded the ASIO4ALL driver, and now Sonar plays through the Lavry DA11 over USB connection.
