You thoughts on this.....

I posted this in the software forum, but prolly belongs in here.

Not sure if I made a mistake here, but I just bought Battery3 for $60+shipping ($19) from a member at KVR. He's shipping the 12GB DVD and NI has released the license from his name.

Although he's unknown to me, he's apparently know over there and regulary sells items. I suppose my apprehension (being the 1st time doing this) is really not knowing the person I'm dealing with, but at the same time for $79, this sounds like a really good deal...Do you guys ever purchase software/hardware from private parties?

I have in the past if I can verify that the software license is legitimate, but I've stopped doing even that.  I only did it once or twice.

as long as NI allows you to transfer the registration then it's legal and/or ethical and that's the important part.

NI does allow transfer of licenses for free. I've given two to my son, but NI does not care who it is; it still costs nothing to transfer a license.

Until I get my DVD (next week) and register it, there's a bit of uneasyness with the risks involved. However, it's good to know that NI doesn't make a big deal about transferring licenses (the seller said he had to fill out a form & send it to NI for this to take place.....and has received the OK from them).

Bapu, what kind of music does your son play and any links to his music? (the fruit usually doesn't fall too far from the fruitfull tree)

    Mesh,

My son is far more capable than me. HERE is where you can start to get a sense of who he is and what he has done as well as what he is doing today.

I warned you. Suffice it to say the guys in the band (and my son) are all kind and gentle souls. The band is geared toward the Death Metal crowd.

I think he was differentiating between band and his son.  Does your boy play bass too?

I didn't think he was differentiating at all, but rather confirming (with a special mention to his son)

I've never known anyone who played a bandoneon.  those things look extremely complicated.

Unlike the piano accordion, the bandoneón does not have keys as per a piano, but has buttons on both sides. Additionally the notes produced on push and pull are different (bisonoric). This means that each keyboard has actually two layouts: one for the opening notes, and one for the closing notes. Since the right and left hand layouts are also different, this adds up to four different keyboard layouts that must be learned in order to play the instrument.

I recently bought an XP pro OEM (no longer available in legitimate retail channels) for a friend who had fried his Dell and could not afford new peripherals with Win 7 compatibility to go with the Frankencomputer we put together from leftover parts. It was a legitimate disk and COA, and installed OK but would not validate due to the key having already been used. Not too surprising since the COA with key was visible through the shrink wrap packaging. Anyone could have copied the key anywhere along the supply chain in the years that this had been floating around. The party that sold it to me, may well have not known he had a turkey. Luckily the price was not too high. Since October, XP has been sold like a street drug, priced like an antique and plagued by fraud. Buying software outside of legitimate distribution channels is always a crap shoot.
