I AM HAVING A TOTALLY HARD TIME TRYING TO GET SONAR TO RUN!! any help would be magnificent

Im trying to run Sonar x1 studio on my hp desktop running vista. (vista is reeaally awful) Anyway i have it installed and it continued to have audio dropouts, so I tried to adjust the buffers in playback que (which by the way only goes up to 2) and adjusted the sampling rate and everything it said in manual but i am still have no luck. If you have any thoughts, i would love to have them!
ps i'm also using the cakewalk UA-25 EX audio capture, if that is important at all

Just be sure to use ASIO drivers in X1 with your UA-25EX.

Posting your system specs would go a long way, too.

Experimenting with you Playback & Recording I/O buffer size may help. There's no magic figure though it's just a matter of finding what works best for you and your system.

Find them in Preferences->Audio->Sync and Caching (You may need to select the advanced option towards the bottom of the preferences screen first)

hp desktop running vista.

Hp desktop, has a lot of HP software on it yes? Also has a realtek built in sound card right? Two recipes for dropouts right there.
Specs and tweaking your HP will be neccessary.

I believe aero is the cooler looking windows graphics in vista/win7.    it takes more cpu to run.  If you have older machine i'd try the ole' shutdown everything you don't have to be running trick.  and tell your computer to quit throttling. That can cause headaches too.

Phenom Quad core,  8gb ram, 3.5tb of Fine Music Storage Vault Under Armed Guard w/ UAV support (air-hog chopper), set of MA-15D, Delta 10-10 pci w/interface, m-box 3 pro, projectmix I/O, Metal Pop Filters, Two SKB cases Full of Suck Removal Buttons, Cedar Walls, Stripper Pole (helps with mastering & block priceing) more stuff i'm to lazy to add. ;)
P.S. good Memory foam is freakin awesome.

Aero is the Vista interface that's used in all versions except the most basic - it's the Vista "look and feel".

Some seem to find that switching it off and reverting to the simpler, less graphically demanding basic interface helps. However, if you're video card's moderately powerfull then Vista will hand over all the graphical stuff to that rather than the cpu dealing with all of it, which makes the system drain caused by Aero minimal. Personally, I'm amongst the people who find switching Aero off doesn't improve performance in the slightest.

It would really help to know your system specs -
processor, amount of RAM, video card (in some PCs they're built into the motherboard), which version of Vista (and whether 32 or 64 bit). Even which model of HP PC may be useful to know.

If there's loads of stuff running at the same time as Sonar (maybe hidden in the background) that can cause problems as well. As can network cards/wireless USB adaptors even if the network isn't in use.
