slight delay when arming tracks to record

I recently upgraded my Mackie Onyx 400F to an RME Fireface UFX and started experiencing  about a one second delay when arming tracks for recording under Sonar PE 8.5.3 64 bit running under Windows 7 64 bit.   Given these symptoms started occurring once I changed the interface, I've posted this issue on RME's forum, however thought I'd post something here as well, as this forum has been very helpful historically.

I've changed buffers around a bit to no avail.  All other functions seem normal and no latency.  I've configured the UFX both via Firewire and USB - both show the same delay as outlined above) and have a Dual Xeon quad core w/ 8 Gbytes RAM and 3 hard drives (one for Sonar and OS, one for Sonar audio data and one for BFD2 audio samples).

Any suggestions / thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
Russ

I have the same thing with my E-MU 1820.

Thanks for the response. I'd never experienced this symptom with my Mackie Onyx 400F nor prior when I was using a MOTU 1224.

RME has responded indicating they believe their next major driver release will hopefully fix this - so it sounds like a relatively known issue.  May you should reach out to EMU about potential driver issues as well?

Yeah, right. I'm running beta W7 drivers that came out last June--still no final version. Hell, their last newsletter was November. Not holding my breath. Sucks. I've had the 0404 PCI and still have an 0404 USB that I use with my laptop and loved them. The 1820 is legacy, which means I have to hope whatever they come up with for the 1616 family will run mine. My next interface will not be an E-MU.

That's rough - I had a similar experience with the Mackie - they offshored all their Onyx hardware production to a factory that wound up burning down, so discontinued the items while outsourcing driver development - so no 64 bit Win 7 driver development.  One of the main reasons I selected RME was their positive reviews on driver support.  Good luck with your situation.

which driver mode are you using?

i've noticed that if you're in WDM (or probably MME also) and sonar can use more than one soundcard and assuming you have not disabled your onboard soundcard or that you might even have another soundcard connected...

that IF that's the case then it takes longer for some functions to work in sonar if both soundcards are selected as drivers in sonar.  clicking on the ARM button for a track is one of those functions that takes a little longer in that case.

this may not happen with all active, dissimilar soundcards in WDM mode, but that's what happens in my case with a motu and an m-audio delta 44.

if I use ASIO driver mode or if I disable one or the other soundcard in the drivers (by unchecking all of the I/O for one card) then the delay goes away.

    Beagle,
Thanks for your response.  I've only tried using ASIO thus far and have only the RME soundcared enabled (I always disable the internal soundcard within device manager to avoid any conflicts, etc).  Thanks for your suggestion though - it made me realize I hadn't tried the WDM drivers to see if there's a difference there - I'll give it a shot.  Given RME responded their next major driver release will hopefully resolve this, it sounds to me like they know about the issue and are (hopefully) working on it in case WDM doesn't do the trick.
    Thanks
