Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error

I keep getting this error, especially when drawing a waveform on a newly recorded clip (which takes a long time, then ends with sonar crashing with this error) -

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONARPDR.exe

Please contact the application's support team for more information.
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.

Is there any solution to this? This wasnt happening to me on sonar 8.5 (though the delay in drawing some new recorded clips was there as well)

I have come across this thread and tried the solution there, but it didnt do anything to the issue.

I tried posting to it, but its locked for some reason -

P.S. Ive been using sonar since cakewalk 4 or something, so abandoning it is not an option, and I cant go back to 8.5 now Im used to X1.

I say go back to 8.5.3 until X1b....also are you using the Sonitus FX  Delay? There is a serious memory leak in it and you have to replace it by re-installing it from the 8.0 disk or earlier. I've found so many bugs and problems in the very half baked X1 that its just un-usable. I'm looking forward to X1B.

Hmm Sonitus delay is indeed being used (on almost all my projects) since its part of the vocal template. Its switched off though. I will delete it and see!

Please advise how to go about doing this one task from the 8.0 disk. I have had too many 8.5.3 crashes from this runtime error since making the mistake of installing X1. Thanks very much, Shep

Run the Sonar install DVD... but only check the Sonitus Delay (uncheck literally everything else)

    I'm a bit confused here...

I just started having this problem today as I began doing heavy layerd-clip editing... and yes, the Sonitus Delay is on this track...

But I allowed X1 to install fx when I did the install, so I can't see re-installing it changing anything... I will investigate the C++ runtime library update (?)... and I will also try removing the Sonitus Delay...

    Thanks for the tips...

Keni,  did you notice that it(Sonitus Delay)needs to be installed from the Sonar 8.0 disk, not X1?

Out of curiosity is an 8.5 disk OK for the Sonitus delay, or does it have to be 8?

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

    Thanks lorneyb2...

I was wondering which version is a "good" one... what got changed in it between there and 8.5? Was it made 64bit? (I'm not so it won't matter to me)... But I was wondering what they changed in it and why?

I didn't have any problems with it (that I'm aware of) in 8.5.3... So I'm still unsure of what's going on here...

A problem like this that happens broadly and causes a catastrophic failure should be communicated to the user base as soon as it is known. To me anything less is simply unacceptable.

It's not often I'm disappointed in Cakewalk but in this case I am completely speechless.

    Hi,

I registered just to post the following, in the hope that Cakewalk people are reading this forum...

I've hardly ever been that upset with a vendor

I just lost a day doing a complete reinstall (HDD format + windows + music software + other software), thinking that the problem came from earlier windows recovery I had to perform... nope

Discovering this Sonitus Delay problem thanks to you guys on the forum, I wrote a message to support, having to endure registration + ID + software declaration screens and so on, only to discover that "the internet is broken or at least the part of it that deals with Cakewalk support messages". It is supposed to be funny?

I wanted to ask for a "good" version of the DLL. You know, the one that a great vendor would have provided to all customers as soon as the problem is known...

Fortunately, some other sites online are not broken and I found what I needed on a strange place full of ads for russian girls (lol)

Do I have to add that the same place provides for free a certain piece of Cakewalk software that I took the pain to buy at an expensive price, only to get no support at all from the vendor ?

How will you Cakewalk convince me to stay a customer of yours now ?

While you may have a problem you are upset with it is not clear that what was in this forum post is still relevant at this point. If you look at the posting dates they are over 7 months ago. There have been two updates to X1 since (b and c) and C is considerably more stable. Are you on X1C? Whatever problem you are seeing may just have been solved already. If you have not downloaded the update please do that and see if it helps.

As for site availability, I can tell you from my experience that it is very reliable so it may have nothing to do with Cakewalk.

We had this same problem over the course of the 8 thru 8.5 versions of Sonar on Win XP Pro and no amount of updating the Microsoft Runtime Library solved this problem. It plagued our production schedule constantly and we were seriously considering going back to doing the bulk of our work in P.T. again ( ugg! )
When we updated all the studio mobo's we also upgraded to win7 64 bit. We also jumped from 8.5.3 to X1c. I realise that is a lot of changes to use as 'control' for an experiment but, from that point on, the problem was gone. All the old projects that were opened into X1c had none of the same problems they did in 8-8.5.3. Even the projects that had the old versions of the Sonitus Delay and then the same projects with the newer version of the Delay installed by X1.
    Just an observation, YMMV

    I'm using 8.5
Cannot afford the upgrade for now
X1 was out mere weeks after I bought the 8.5 Pro release, but I got no special warning at the time of buying

Then I filled in a few support tickets for bugs I encountered in 8.5 Pro, but they were dismissed, I suppose support was more interested in helping X1 people
EDIT: to be honest I had helpful support on one issue, dismissal on two others
