Epson or Gibson?

I heard Epson makes a 5 string bass that looks just like a Gibson but it's cheaper.... should I?

I'm going to print that out and put it on my fridge.

    :-)

I might use musicman's painting with it.

Epi's not what it used to be... but if you're willing to do a little reverse-engineering and upgrading, they can turn into nice instruments...

    But 5 is a GAS.

Are we talking "noble" gasses, or something a bit more... common?

I bought a Fender Squire Precision Bass last year for $350. I didn't have much choice because it was the only left handed bass in a 200 mile radius and I will not buy an instrument without playing it first.

I'm very happy with it. Especially through a DI box and then throwing Guitar Rig Pro 4's bass cab's at it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, you don't have to spend a fortune on a bass for it to sound good and I wouldn't hesitate to go for an Epiphone.

i have a schecter 5 string...i use the low b string when my 7-string ibanez is in B.  well. the 7 string is always in B, but i ignore it a lot and tune E to D. thus dropped D tuning..ignoring the B..but i write songs in B too , its so low and deep...Korn turned me on to that style but they tune to A, and that is where i draw the line..

     A = NO way...

coal chamber plays in B...but they tune in this crazy dropped B. I do standard chords..love the sound it makes...

many many uses, easy to ignore the string for me.  a lot of 6 stringers won't agree but i've had them so long i have trouble playing a 6 string.

I guess the way I look at bass is, for 99% of recordings, can you tell what make/model bass is being played? I don't see spending any serious money on it unless your an actual bass 'player' iykwim.

    Man....I didn't expect that. I'm almost speachless...and definately humbled.
I have a guitar to build for one of our friends here and starting as soon as
I finish the bass which I'm hoping to be sending first week of March.
Build time seems to be around three+ months.
If you don't mind the wait....I'd be honored. It'll give us planning time too.

I should have known you'd know of him.
John Page was my inspiration to build a guitar and Michael Pedulla is
the guy I look at when I think of bass. You may see, hopefully see, some of him
in the bass build. Of course I can't even see his tail lights....yet. Bapu will
let me know if I'm even on the same road.
John Page contacted me again! He gave me a big thumbs up on my guitar!
Naturally I went into momentary shock....

PM me and start letting me know about the "things" about basses you like.

Now there's something I'd like to see.

A Mike McCue specified bass guitar built by Spacey.

Never mind an Ep son of Gibson, that would truly be an artwork I reckon.

I'm already dreaming up some kind of a Tele/Esquire shape 6 string guitar, with a semi body and straight through neck for myself.

I'm convinced it would be so sexy it would inspire me to learn to play it.

You know Jon....I got a beautiful picture of a castle in England from a very talented Englishman...I checked on
shipping to England after I received that picture and shipping wasn't a big deal (to me).
My personal plans that I shouldn't be sharing could expand, easily. I may not be able to go to England and have a mug with my friends (like some lucky cat I know) but I sure can send a reason for them to down some mugs!!
    You know were I'm reached.
