Not Responding during save

I've developed a problem with a project that has become very frustrating.  Somehow, every time I try to save X1 hangs and goes into "Not Responding" mode.  Eventually I have to end the program, and try again.  Even if I don't make any changes to the file I cannot save it as something else.  Does anyone have any tips for this?  The project itself isn't even very big.

P.S. It's not my system.  I'm running an Intel i7, 920 with 12 GB Ram.

Have you tried to cut and paste the tracks into a new project?  Sometimes that works - but leaves the nagging question of "Why this but not that?" !

Not exactly a best choice, but not exactly a workaround either.  Projects get corrupted sometimes . . . . . .

You wouldn't by any chance be using a korg controller would you?

Nope.  I'm just mixing some stuff now, so the only thing I have plugged in now is Firewire Solo.

I only have one other possible culprit that I've run into. Are you using a bridged plug in?

Trying to save it to an eSata drive.  I think the problem might be a particular instance of Melodyne.  I guess I'm gonna have to export the particular track, edit in Melodyne, and then bring it back.  We will see if that works.  Thanks for the responses so far.

I have the exact same frustrating problem. The cause of this "not responding" crash in my case is due to a vst synth plugin. Im 100 percent sure because my other vst synth plugins work just fine. The crash happens when I edit my Synapse Nerve vst drum synth and change settings on the plugin. If I load Nerve and do not load any samples or create patterns it will not crash when I save my project. So, now I have to resort to creating patterns and outputing the midi sequence and saving the drum state settings and pattern data. Then I close Sonar without saving anything and it doesnt crash, but it's a major pain to reload all the data everytime I open the project and having to resave everything each time I change something. I'm getting very frustrated with X1, now my DUNE vst synth suddenly fails to load the .dll file and the path is correct? I've used Sonar since 1.0 and never had any problems. X1 claims to to be the Win7 solution but it's not living up to it's name. I hope they fix these bugs very soon.

It just gets more and more complex all the time doesn't it?

LOL, yup....Those are the only 2 plugins I'm working with now, synapse and xfer(nerve). Nerve is a disaster on X1 and now Dune suddenly fails to load .dll file just out of nowhere? It was working fine for many weeks. It was the only plugin working!!!!

(I hate to do this, I'm already hated in circles because of it)

I have had little to no problems with nerve in X1 (surprise) I know, it's a drag when things are not consistent. Trying to nail down things, or someone can't reproduce things.

Have you talked to steve over at the xfer forums? Generally you'll get great support over there. Also, with it being in perpetual beta there are new betas popping up time (I've lost track)

In the meantime, I'll pull up some nerve projects and try to reproduce the problem.

Thanks for offering to help out. I'm so sad, I almost smashed my midi controller in frustration! It seems like sonar doesnt know where or how to save the Nerve settings...I'm assuming that saving a cakewalk project file saves everything including settings on vst plugins. Is your nerve plugin under a program files directory or just on a your C: drive?

TBH, I don't even really know where they are saved. Somewhere on my C drive (I tried to do E drive, can't remember what the problem was)

In my case I found out that it is Melodyne Editor as a plugin that's causing my problem.  It's a little weird since I have 3 instances of it already working just fine.  My workaround is as I mentioned earlier to just export the tracks and do the editing in Melodyne standalone mode.  It's way more time consuming, but at least it is something.

Well I got Dune working again. I just had to reset all under the vst plugin options and do a rescan. Im still trying to figure out why the Nerve  plugin is causing the "sytem not responding" crash when saving a project.

     Hello,

I am a new member to the forums but I have been using Cakewalk for a long time, have also kept an eye on the forum for useful info off and on.Anyway,I was having the same problem you describe and it turned out to be that the default sample rate( in preferences)  was one thing and the project was set at another. I could actually duplicate the problem by setting them different, then fix it by setting them the same. Not saying that is your problem ,but it fixed mine. Hope this helps..
