Volume behaviour with audio FX

Hi all,

After upgrading from Home Studio 6, I'm a bit baffled with the volume behaviour of audio FX in Sonar X1. In HS6, when I inserted an audio FX, it basically didn't affect the overall volume output of the track (unless, of course, I specified so within the actual audio FX). Now, when I insert an audio FX, the track volume is much lower than when I turn the audio FX off. Is there some FX chaining or routing thing that I don't understand perhaps?

Chaining or routing isn't going to affect volume. However, all effects affect volume to some extent. At least, I can't think of any effect that doesn't.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I know, e.g. I've been using Cakewalk FX3 Soundstage for more than a decade now, but in Sonar X1 it radically changes the track output volume.

I think we'll need specifics - like which Fx plug(s) have you tried?
    What's the track/bus/master routing?
    What automation have you applied?

I'm not at my DAW, but if I recall correctly:

    - Fx plug(s): Channel Strip (is that's what it's called?), Cakewalk FX3 Soundstage, Sonic Foundry Graphic EQ
    - Track/bus/master routing: all tracks routed directly to soundcard output (Edirol)
    - No automation applied

This won't solve your problem, but you'll find it a lot easier to manage your entire project if you route all your busses to a Master bus and route that to you Soundcard

    Tracks > Busses
    Busses> Master Bus
    Master Bus > Soundcard
