I use the following VST effects, all of which are excellent and come in at different price points: iZotope Stutter Edit (brand new and on offer at the moment until mid Feb). Sugar Bytes Effectrix Sugar Bytes Artillery II NI The Finger NI The Voice Audio Damage Replicant They are all great in their own ways, and I think all but Replicant have free demos. Replicant is the cheapest though, and AD have a refund policy. There is also a well known free one called Glitch ( http://illformed.org/plugins/glitch/) but I had trouble with it in SONAR 8.5.3.

You could add the Stereo Compressor/Gate included with SONAR to the FX bin of the track. Set the Gate Mode to Manual. And then open/close the gate by automating the Manual Trigger parameter with an envelope. Set the Snap to Grid to the note resolution you want and then use the Draw (Square) tool to draw the envelope. Scott -- Scott R. the best way is manually by chopping it into small pieces like qy or ew notes and taking out every other piece and sometimes applying a tiny fade to the remainig pieces. I have to try that stutter plug to see how it works but my way works well Also I forgot to mention, if it is one syllable that you want to stutter, cut it into an adequate piece and then repeat the piece as many times as desired.

the old fashioned way - load a sample into a sampler and trigger it. @

we used to do that years ago.. with the sampler and ST.... BUT you'd send the master volume 0 and then 127 messages really quickly in c-lab IRC :) seems like a lifetime since I used an Akai 950/1000/3000xl I use recycle for that at one point , but well it's destructive..so prefer the midi method

Lots of ways to do studder editing. If you like BT's way of studder editing, then I'd suggest izotope stutter edit. I personally like Sugar Bytes Effectrix and dblues glitch for pattern based sequencing studdering or glitching. If you like more control, you can also use a midigater controlled by a midi track to do audio chopping. It really all depends on what you are after. Best,

For the sake of completeness, i'm going to mention Image Line's Gross Beat (see http://www.image-line.com/documents/grossbeat.html), which takes a different approach to stutter effects, compared to the other offerings mentioned in this thread. There are also some very good stutter effects scattered amongst the components found in NI's Deep Reconstructions. I've tried out pretty much all of the effects that have been mentioned above (except for Stutter Edit), and found nothing that made me decide that i absolutely need to change from the VSTs i already possess, namely Deep Reconstructions, AD's Replicant and Automaton and -- what has always been one of my faves -- Glitch. But i'm intrigued by some of the hand-crafted stutter effects mentioned in this thread, and i'm going to give them a try....thanks to the posters who suggested them. Regards Glenn

AT the old fashioned way - load a sample into a sampler and trigger it. @ This. Grab DiscoDSP's Highlife or Vermber Audio's ShortCircuit ( both FREE ) assign the vocal sample to a key, and assign the play mode to 'forward' iirc. Then just trigger the sample 3 times in quick succession, holding the last note on for as long as you need. That's all the vocal is doing at the start in the example song you mentioned. I'm sure Highlife also allows you to change a samples' end-point over time - which can be handy with loops - which ShortCircuit doesn't... I think.
