Song draft (orchestra/hip hop) - This IS Sick
Actually composed all today, while home sick, but I really how it came together. IMO, probably 90% done, maybe could you just a bit more drum tranistions, and maybe a breakdown. Orchestra sounds where EWQL plat. Arp was Rapture from that expansion Ba-Midi recommended (thanks man) Drums were a loop (sigh, still better than anything I can program). Izotope alloy on most tracks, with a bit of izotope stutter on the french horn. http://www.soundclick.com...usic.cfm?bandID=213418 Version 2 here http://soundcloud.com/you/tracks All comments are welcome, especially the bad ones, I think you learn the most from them, lol. Thanks,

The orchestra should be thinned out or dirtied up, for hiphop. The kick and bass should pretty much own everything below 300hz.

Thanks for the idea, I guess the problem is I love the EWQL stuff to much, lol. Still, I will look into it. One of the guys I work with he also mentioned that I should bring the kick up a bit more, make it really hit. Anyway, thanks for the listen, and feedback.

I like all the little stereo effects going on with the synth's. I like this. :)

@Bub, yeah the rapture is a pretty neat synth IMO. @ Janet, yes, I just really like symphony stuff, but also a good beat, lol. No reason they can't be put together right? One of my favorite groups "Hybrid" actually did some really great techno/orchestra stuff. They actually went to Russia I think and did actual recording for their stuff. Always nice to see the envelope stretched a bit. Anyway, thanks for the listen !

Good start , the drum track sounds a bit too thin for my taste . A bit more separation will help some of your sounds bleed through better . Not bad I like where its going . Radio

Interesting piece. I particularly liked the way the synths worked against the orchestra, and it sounds like you had some pretty good arp patterns going there (were those from Sonar, cause I can't find many useful arp patterns in there myself). I have to agree with other comments on the drums being too thin. While I don't pretend to being any kind of expert on this genre, I'd recommend trying another kit... something fatter with more punch, and I'll echo James' comment on the kick.

The arp was off of the new DSF Rapture pack. And yes I really like it as well. As far as the kick it and bass line they are off of a loop. Maybe I could always try doubling it up with another kick or something. Although to be honest, it's hitting pretty hard hear for me. I'm using Usher's "yeah" as a reference track, and they both seem to be hitting about the same etc. Maybe I need new speakers, lol. Main monitor is Mackie HR824, I'm doing a second listen on Yamaha S115v, not great but not to bad. I would like to get a dedicated sub, but I'm thinking I should have at least a decent idea of what's going on. Maybe I'm missing something

Yes, I do have the snare on a separate track. The loop library I got was kind enough to split the drum loops up (I'm a HUGE fan of that). I do have a bit of verb on it, although, I had backed it off from previous versions, let me dink around with it. Thanks,

I normally wouldn't do this... But you've been contributing, thank you for that. I say I normally wouldn't do this? Because this is so far outside my genera, and I'm really not a fan of this style of music. Ok, so now that we've gotten that out of the way? LOL! I don't know how it can be considered Hip Hop without some wordz? Doesn't it have to have like a rap vocalist? (and if not, I apologize) I think it could be a lot better with one of those "yeah, come on!" guys on there? Even like some Little John vocals? Yeaaaaahya! Whhhhhaaaat? OK! What? I listened all the way through, it sounded good? But without some vocals, it gets too repetitive? It needs the singer/vocalist to tell the story of the song. If it's just an instrumental, it needs to have some really skilled musicians with their talent on display. This song is not that, but with the right words and vocals, could be pretty cool for the genera.

Agreed it should (and hopefully will) have vocals. Right now it's just the beat. I've got a couple of arists I'm working with, and if none of them feel like working with it, then hopefully someone else will step up. You really can't have hiphop without vocals. I'm hoping with some strong vocals and hook (plus vocals throw ins of course) to take it to the next level, but I like to give the artist a strong foundation to work with. And even though, I know the mix will change some with vocals in it, I still think it's worthwhile to get a good mix first. Anyway, thanks so much for the listen. I know it's not everyone's thing, but it's appreciated anyway :)

If I can make people suffer through my hip hop or techno, then I can listen to some country, lol Anyway, my artist says I should have vocals tomorrow, I'm super excited. I will look at making any further changes once I get the vocals in.

Hi I like the orchestra background and the synth. However, you are staying with the same riff throught out the song. That is saying that the song is not well developed. I have seen electronica songs that stay on the same riff for a long time, but then they change the riff somewhere in the middle. The drums are bit thin, try experimenting with different drum set or add some percussion to spice it up. It is a good start, keep experimenting. It is a fun song for being sick.

Thanks for the listen, I will think about adding in some extra percussion in the final mix to keep up interest. Thanks,
