Cakewalk Plugins

Hi. I recently purchased and installed the Sonar X1 Producer DAW. Has anybody else had an issue with the Cakewalk plugins crashing the system when an instance is inserted into FX? I'm only talking the older instances. Any new Cakewalk plugins to X1 work fine as does any other "brand" e.g., Sonitus plugins. But the older Cakewalk plugins don't. What's unusual is that any older project saved with Cakewalk plugins load and work fine provided I don't click on the instance to "open them up". Then the system crashes.

My pc specs are fine. And I don't have any problem with 3rd party plugin effects like Sonitus. It's the Cakewalk plugins I have an issue with. I can insert them into the FX bin but once the plugin interface (or window) attempts to open the system crashes. Again, any new Cakewalk plugin (new to X1) works fine. It's only the older ones that the problem comes up. I would like to solve this issue because the functionality of the plugins are great.

I have downloaded the patch. I'm also using Windows Vista (32 bit). I also had Sonar 6 already installed which I left installed. I bought the full version of X1 Producer rather than an upgrade and initially installed the basic setup which I forgot skips installing the plugins. However since they were installed with Sonar 6 they were available to use. Or so I thought. The Cakewalk effects cause the system to crash as I have described. I reinstalled X1 Producer over the top (without uninstalling it) this time as a full setup. However this made no difference. I've also tried uninstalling Sonar 6 and uninstalling and reinstalling X1 Producer since but that hasn't worked either. I don't have a computer that hasn't had Sonar 6 installed on it first that's why I'm asking if anybody else has had this problem. I can't install X1 Producer "clean" to tell whether it's the program or some conflict between the two programs.

So I'll take this as a no. It's not a wide spread issue so there's probably some conflict going on between the installations instead. I wonder if I uninstall both programs then change the name of the folders left over... do you think this will enable a "clean" install?

When Sonar 8 came out the older FX were death to my system (XP Pro 32). After Sonar had crashed I'd have the name of the problem device sitting on my screen until I rebooted the pc!!!
The problem was cured by installing Windows 7 and loading 8.3.1 as a fresh program. X1 is working fine for me (in this respect) so it could be Vista and some legacy things on your computer.

Yes. This is the exact problem I have. The name of the plugin freezes on the screen. I'm hoping it's not Windows though just a need for a clean installation. Do you understand anything about registries and if something must be done to "clean" the computer of installations completely? I have asked for technical help so maybe the Cakewalk guys will have a solution too. Thanks.

My experience of deleting any Sonar program has always generated a cry off "how the hell is that still there?". I've never got rid of all of the bits and pieces lurking about other than when I got a new hard drive and installed W7 (which is obvious really). One version would not uninstall (7 I think) no matter what I did.
I'm not keen of getting deep into registries as I have a habit of jumping into things and regretting it later .
I always manage to get out of the sh!t but I don't like it while I'm swimming in it.
If you aren't sure DON'T DO IT!

I found this referal that explains a few things. http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=954275&mpage=1

Hopefully it works for both installations.
