Latency issues when mixing & matching USB & MIDI interfaces

I am just getting ready to set up my Sonar X1 studio on a Windows 7 PC, and had a question about mixing USB devices with a MIDI patchbay.  I plan to use the latest Windows 7 drivers for all devices.

I currently own a Roland AX-Synth and Edirol PCR-M30 controller which I can connect via USB.  I would also like to be able to use my old Roland Sound Canvas SC-55 module and some iPhone MIDI apps, which I plan to connect via a resurrected Edirol UM-550 patchbay.

With this equipment list in mind -

In an attempt to minimize latency and other possible connectivity issues, would I be better off just connecting everything via the UM-550 patchbay, or is mixing separate USB MIDI devices along with patchbay connectivity generally a "non-issue"?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

you shouldn't have any issue with latency.. or it's adjustable if you do..

if you have drivers (current ones) for that um-550 then it shouldn't be an issue

you treat the unit's as 3 separate things. can't speak for that iphone app.. aren't they wifi things?

    Thanks for the feedback, Fog!

Even though I've had several "false start" attempts with music and DAW software over the years (ANOTHER expensive hobby!!), I am just now really getting serious about it, and definitely appreciate the feedback and wealth of experience and knowledge on this forum!

    Concerning the iPhone -

Line 6 makes the "MIDI Mobilizer", which is MIDI I/O interface that plugs into the charger port on the iPhone.
There are several apps available that will use the interface.  Other than the drawback of NOT being able to charge the phone while in use, this makes for a pretty sweet setup!

Amazing what you can do with an iPhone these days! :)

I am having a problem with midi connectivity between a Casio Wk-7500 keyboard/workstation and my PC. I have installed Sonar Home Studio XL V7 according to the instructions and have connected the keyboard to the PC via an A/B Type USB cable also according to the instuctions that came with the keyboard. The drivers for the keyboard are installed on the PC as well.

My problem is that when I start SHS the keyboard does not appear in the "Option" | "MIDI Devices" drop-down windows. Am I missing something? Do I need to run the USB cable thru a MIDI controller? Thanks for any help.
