Rode NT1A With USB Mic Mate Too Loud?

So I finally get to use my Mic! It plays back fine but I noticed even when Set to Low On MXL Mic Mate It's shooting into Red on The Audio track? But in V-Vocal It' just PLAIN Distorted unless I hit the Bypass Button. Any way i can lower the Volume?!

Move the mic further away from the sound source?

Play or sing quieter?

Buy and use an inline "pad" that is capable of passing along the phantom power?
