Sonar 8.5 or X1? Studio or Producer?

Im soon going to upgrade to a different version of sonar ive been running home studio xl7 for a while and im trying to decide wether i want to pick up 8.5 or Sonar X1? But i havent heard much about x1 and i cant watch the videos right now my flash player is out of date. Are there different plugins, or is x1 essentially the same one but with a more versatile workstation. Also whats the deal with producer vs studio, no ones ever really told me whats the big difference?

Well you should b reading the x1 forum. Seems to be issues and bugs.
Why don't you go for P8.5 and then upgrade later when the smoke clears.

Well said, JohnnyV, I'm not sure we'll be seeing a smoke-free environment until perhaps X2+inevitable patch. Meanwhile S8.5 seems to be ticking along very nicely.

Yes it is, as long as you don't install X1 on your system also. Seems there are some problems with X1 nudging it's way on to 8.5. Metronome problems and some Session Drummer 3 sample playback problems, among other things.

I have 8.5 Producer, I've never used Studio, but if you have the funds to go with Producer I would do that, it will be well worth it. Of course it is your preference/decision, and will depend on what you need and how much you'll be using it. If you rely heavily on Sonar for recording and it's your main program, then go with Producer. Lots of cool stuff included. If you go with Producer, don't forget to look through the CW store for free expansion paks for Dimension Pro, Rapture, there's a lot of free and inexpensive add-ons around if you do a little searching. :-)

There used to be a difference of $90 or so on every upgrade for Producer, compared to Studio. That kept me rethinking over and over if to go with Producer ever.

That meant for me that every upgrade money can be saved and actually choose the bling-bling I want instead.

It seems with X1 that changed. It might be that upgrade cost are more similar once owning the Producer the longterm cost is not that different.

I will go X1(well, when X2) Producer later probably if that is the case. We will see this fall.
