A new tune. "For Mark"

As some of you know we lost a family member just before Christmas we know how he died but none can tell us why he had to die.  Please do not try too.

Nice one, Wook! It has a nice ambient feel for reminiscing. The upbeat parts bring forth a celebration of your loved one's life. Well put together.

This sounds very good. Lots of good sounding instruments and a nice blend in the
mix, very "colorful" The what sounds like a distorted guitar or simulation of sounds thin
compared to the full sounding tone of the other instruments. The way things are
panned sounds good giving more focus or maybe space to the mix as a whole.
I do wonder though if "some" parts that sound like they would be "primary" parts
might be panned too extreme. Like it sounds at the beginning. This type or style/
genre of music is not one that I listen to a lot (but) you've done this in a way
that makes it nice to sit back and enjoy listening to.

Scott: Thanks yes celebration and loss.

Jimmy: That is real guitar with as much distortion and saturation as I could drag out of the amp.  It is also heavy reverb I suppose I was looking for the sound crying in distant rain.

Jumbicat: I understand that feeling the end was deliberately abrupt, like something was not finalised or ended before it should have.

    Thank you all for listening.

Hi John, nice tune, like the synth sounds and the fact that you managed to have the lead synth line asking a question, if you get what I mean, without there being an answer. The electric guitar part is imho missing some finger vibrato or some subtle bends, but maybe this was your intension.

I'd have to agree on the electric guitar. It's not quite 'in the mix' somehow. Everything else is in the same space, but the guitar is kind of somewhere else. Perhaps due to the ambience on the other parts and the guitar being very dry. Anyway, a nice piece either way.

Rik: Thanks for listening, perhaps there are unanswered questions, the guitar was very heavily over driven and wet with reverb so I think that some of the nuances got lost, and my not overly good guitar skills. I was aiming to get the guitar to sound lost in the distance like the sound of unrestrained grief from someone who feels very lost and very alone.

Dean:  Thanks for listening and the compliment.  If you read the above the guitar was recorded using the reverb from my VOX combo amp and was deliberately not passed to the general verb bus that all other instruments where feeding, to create the very effect of separation.

Thanks again to all for listening.

Wow John, this must have so difficult to write and perform - always thinking of your son-in-law, taken too soon from all of you.

But it works perfectly my friend - you should be rightly proud of naming this in his honour

What a nice thing to do - it's great to have music as an outlet, isn't it? Lots of different emotions going on in this piece, which is probably fitting. I really liked the end sustained note. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Dave, thank you Tom.

No loops or midi patterns where abused in the making of this tune.

very nice. i like the way you play with the toms. i usually avoid them in my music because they sound aggressive but you have involved them nicely.
    Nice!

This is a very good song that sounds great.  I know creating music has helped me at times and I hope creating this piece has helped you.  I believe I know what you were trying to do with the guitar sound and it is a great idea.  Although I am not one qualified to comment on studio skills, I have found that a wee bit of slow attack adds kind of a pensive, contemplative feel to most songs.

I am sorry for your loss.

    hey john.
great tune. i agree with the comments about the guitar - i know you did it on purpose, but a little delay or verb woldn't hurt...or use a simple lead synth patch. listening to your stuff, more and more i am impressed with the way you add rhythmic interest in the synth parts; your use of the glockenspiel/tuned bells type patch is inspired. drums are very well programmed.
