You can certainly route multiple tracks to a bus with an instance of Span on that bus. Beyond that I'm a bit lost with Span's multi input feature.

Though, to be fair, you can do it with your ears just as fast and with less CPU overhead :-) Trust your instincts, Luke! Anyway, I'm not against using the tools the Digital Gods dun give us or anything. But for something like this, it's worth it from a time suckage point of view to learn to do it with your ears because removing frequency conflicts is a (or maybe even the) fundamental operation of mixing, and even more importantly of composing/arranging where you don't have the luxury of that type of tool yet. Figure it out before you record it and it won't be there to begin with, right? I'm not speaking down from Mt. Olympus, since I've not fully figure it out yet either by a long shot, but the more you exercise your ears on this front the better you get.

I LMAO when he said "what we're hearing is -----my voice, hahaha" I had to practice listening to different sounds to make a determination on which area of the spectrum was the hottest by ear...eq to me is tough, but practice makes perfect. I use span as a reference. I dont hear low mids so well

I got it to work! Just using it on the masterbus and soling tracks and following his instructions. Awesome!!!

Does anyone know what the correlation meter does?

Don't know what the correlation meter is or does, but I also tried this and got it to work somewhat. I'm having a hard time figuring which send (I see span input 2,3 and 4 in my list of sends) is where on the groups. Some seem to be on the same group i.e Bass, kick and guitar may all be group 1. I'll have to watch the videos again and experiment some more. By the way, Munmun, thanks for pointing the videos out. Jim

munmun The attached video shows how you can use Span to line up two conflicting spectrums to identify the problem frequency. I did not know that you can do this on Span. I still had an old version of SPAN dating from 2007 and I didn't realise what I was missing. I've updated it now. Thanks.

One key is to use sends from individual tracks into Span. It is however quite confusing at times. That said I just used this technique to eq an entire mix. To my ears it sounds like I might have really good separation!

I did use sends, but i only see three: span input 2,3 and 4 in my list of sends. I'm assuming these are all supposed to be stereo sends and you pan everything hard left or right. I did get the kick and bass to show up as I thought it should. Other tracks seem to also be in group 1 or 2 at times. I'll spend more time with it today. Jim

The problem I'm having is span only sees two outs. The guy in the video had 8 outs. I guess the routing is more versatile in Live. I can still use this, but just change the output groups (A,B,C etc.), but it would be nice not to have to do it. Does anyone know if Sonar will let the plugin see more outs? Jim

I practice listening to different voices, so I am determined to the ears of the hottest areas of the spectrum. EQ is tough, but practice makes perfect. As a reference span. I am not so good to hear low-IF.
If u want the change,be the change.

munmun Does anyone know what the correlation meter does? If it's like the one in T-Racks, it is an indication of phase issues between left and right channels. From what little I know about it, the more in phase your stereo signal is, the better your output sounds, and the better it translates to mono. One of our resident experts could no doubt give more information.
