Christian Acoustic Song: Spirit Alive

http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_7235181

I'm not sure what I want out of feedback here guys. I put literally no effort into mixing, compressing, etc. I just slapped some presets on there and let it go.

I think just some first blush comments to help me figure out what to do with it.

Lyrics are on the site.

It's got potential...add some harmony's on the chorus, tighten up some of the lyrics.  Yeah, I hear it.  Keep it up.

    Hi there Joshua

Cool song, your obvious passion for the lyrics you're singing is flooding through your performance.

And I'm loving those minor chords at the end of each passage - they set up the next part of the song perfectly each time.

Great vibe and emotion. The reverb makes the vocals seem a little distant and to me it works perfectly for the tone, but makes it a little hard to understand. The feeling definitely comes through and it's a beautiful song.

beautiful track Josh. doesn't sound like your voice somehow! prob need a bit more verb on the guitar to compliment the voice.

btw, still working on the track you sent me. i also have a song i'd like you to sing on, it's an indie rock thing on the lines of Kings of leon...

Jumbi - I agree. I hear a harmony there as well.

BIAB - agreed. I was trying to figure out the melody as I went.

Steve - thank you Fm is one of my favorite dark acoustic chords

dlogan - I agree with what you're saying. I just got some mackie MR5's and the performance sounds lights outs on them. However, when it's compressed to an mp3 and then put on reverbnation...ugh is about all I can say. Now I see how I was eq'ing things to hot before and had my mix all jacked up...The reverb was just on the vocal to help in the monitor, but I never tweaked it. It's just the default setting.

MGH - what do you mean? Just a different style or because of the errors? Guitar has no verb on it...just didn't put any "final" effort into this...I was just tracking testing purposes.
On the other two, still very quite definitely, completely interested! : )

I'll put another go on the vocal for this and then finalize and re-post.

    Great song.

I too like that minor chord at the end of each passage.

Vocals Are slightly pitchy in places as stated too. BUt it does have that "one take" live feel from it so its not a killer.

Yes, do Heart of Gold. :-)

I don't know what to tell you what to do with it.  I was waiting for a little more of a 'hook' I guess.  But then again, some songs take a couple listens to really take hold of you.  Great emotion in your singing.

Yeah, I'll work on that Janet.

I know this doesn't' have that "hook"...but it was just my walk as a Christian. I'm not trying to hook people with lyrics, I'm just hoping people can feel my struggle...

You got a very nice voice and very expressive.  Need a bit fix on the pitch.  Very nice heart felt song with a good chorus lyrics.  I would back off the voice reverb a bit.  You could add some orchestration or back up instrumentation to add more fullness to the track.

As a quick sketch this is inspiring.

Also acoustic guitar work is completely awesome to my ears.  It is fluid and fresh to the max!

+1 to Vechung's tentative ideas (polish the vox pitch, etc.)
