"Precious Lord, Take My Hand"
Many of you have seen my post in the Coffee House about the passing of my wife's grandpa. On Friday my friend Heath was over recording and shortly after he left, we got the word that George had departed for a better place. We had just finished recording this song, which is going to be played at the funeral tomorrow. It was recorded in 30 minutes and mixed in 15, so it's raw and perfectly imperfect. I wanted to share this with my friends here... http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10275514

When I listened to this song it sounded like somebody was sitting in my room, playing & singing. I mean that in a very good way. I think this captures the moment simply because it is not over done. Very beautifully recorded in my opinion.
Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take! Desktop: Win 7 Pro 64 Bit , ASUS MB w/Intel Chipset, INTEL Q9300 Quad Core, 2.5 GHz, 8 GB RAM, ATI 5450 Video Laptop: Windows 7 Pro, i5, 8 Gig Ram Hardware: Presonus FP10 (Firepod), FaderPort, M-Audio Axiom 49, Mackie 1202 VLZ, POD X3 Live, Variax 600, etc... etc...

I'm not sure I would make any more production to this. Maybe a simple bass line but I think it's a very effective tune as is. Simple, it's very sweet and sincere. This would wow them on Prarie Home Companion. ! Daryl

Sounds like an ibanez acoustic cut-away. Is it? Great song.

Yes, I just listened again... This song is special... Who is singing? Is this your Michael Smith singer? Who is singing? Is this you?? The singer "makes" the song... The singer draws you in... Transfixes you on the spiritual message of the song. Great singer, really... And a great song too.

Thank you all! We were originally just recording this to see if it would work - go back and listen and see if we wanted to "really" record it. I'm glad it sounds like someone playing in your living room - I tried to just leave it as a "transparent" mix. Joshua. No, it's a Taylor GS6. But my playing ability downgrades the sound for sure. :) Robby, yeah this is the same guy who sang on "Only Grace" and "Open the Eyes..." that I've posted recently. You know better than to ask if it was me! :) I'll soon have many more to post! Yeah he had never heard the song before either - he pulled up the Elvis version on YouTube before heading over. It was very powerful to hear this at the funeral yesterday. I felt very honored.

Incredible recording...Not sure I would touch this. This gives me chills on the back of my neck. Vocals are Fantastic! Guitar is right where it should be. Something to be said for simplicity. I absolutely love the light reverb on the vocals...PERFECT!

Wouldn't change a thing about this - I always think that things like this should just be the way they came out and that's that. I did a similar thing a few years ago and just left it wobbly bits 'n' all. Not that I'm saying this has wobbly bits, but mine did ! Whenever I lose someone close, I tend to console myself with the thought that at least they know something we don't.

Heath wants to redo some of the vocals, and I told him he can record as many tracks as he wants, but I'm not going to use them. :) You're right, there's something about just capturing a moment... I definitely miss the guy. Just one of those people that really has an impact on you... the good thing is, that is not gone! When someone passes on, the affect they had people and our memories of them still remain. Paulo I'd love to hear your recording.
