Two track separation?
Hi,
I'm running GTP4 with a M-Audio 2496 sound card. I'm recording via a Behringer Eurorack MX602A, using guitar on Line in 1 and mic on Line in 2. My vocal track is assigned to the input "Left M-Audio Delta ASIO Analogue in 1 AP" and the Guitar track to "Right M-Audio Delta ASIO Analogue in 1 AP". Both tracks are armed for recording. However it appears that both the guitar and mic are recorded to both tracks. I realise that I can record these tracks separately at different times but is there a way of recording just the guitar to one track and just the mic to another simultaneously?

Just a quick question, are you using Guitar Tracks Pro 4, or the version of GT4 that comes bundled with the V-Studio 20 hardware?

i believe if your I/O's are in the correct positions this shouldnt be a problem.have you checked where your inputs and outputs are routed from?

I don't think they are Charlie, that's why I asked about which version Nick is using. If I'm right, the GT4 'lite' only allows global setting of the inputs - there is no way to set two different tracks to separate inputs. If he's using the Pro version, he will need to assign different Sends from his soundcard, not use the right and left inputs from the same send. There is a workaround as long as the left and right sends from the M-Audio can be panned - e.g. the guitar can be sent panned 100% left and the vocals panned 100% right. If you now record to a single stereo track you will have the separate performances on each channel. Finally, you can split the two performances by bouncing down to two mono tracks. I may be wrong as I don't have GT4Pro or an M-Audio, but my TonePort works with GT4 and all my other Cakewalk software as I've described above

Then you should be OK Nick. I'm not certain exactly how to set up your M-Audio, but as I said above, you seem to be selecting the same 'Send' for both tracks, the only difference being that you're choosing different mono feeds. You need to set up your soundcard so that the guitar and your vocals are not only inputted using separate inputs, but also outputted through separate sends. By way of example, here's a screenshot of the six track input choices I get in Cakewalk SONAR from my TonePort:  If I wanted to accomplish what you are trying to do, I'd first have to set my TonePort soundcard outputs so the guitar and vocals were on separate sends. Then I'd have to set up two tracks in SONAR; on the first track I'd assign the guitar send and on the second, the vocal send. I'd then set up Track 1's input to Left ASIO TonePort UX2 Send 1-2 and Track 2's input to Left ASIO TonePort UX2 Send 3-4 - the important difference to your set-up is that I'm using different sends (1-2 and 3-4) and not the same send's two mono options.
Nick, see if you see similar options from your M-Audio; if so, try assigning the 'Left' channel to both, and use Left M-Audio Delta ASIO Analogue in 1 AP for one track and Left M-Audio Delta ASIO Analogue in 2 AP (if the option is there).

Do you have the channels panned on the mixer? This is important. Be sure the mic channel si panned hard left, and the guitar is panned hard right. This will isolate the two at the source. This is essentially what Steve is saying, but it has to be done on the hardware side of things. My own setup is virtually identical to what you have, but a different sound card. Also, if you have the option, set your track stereo interlace to mono. You should see an icon in the audio track that looks like a bowtie for this.

Thanks everyone for these great tips. It may be a couple of days before I get chance to try them out but I will report back as soon as I get time out from the dreaded work (and I'm supposed to be retired !)
