New user PM
Just got this PM from a new user in another forum: "when I downloaded the drivers off of the M-audio Website, it told me what was wrong once it was downloaded it, but it wouldn't fix it, it told me I had to buy Driver Detective. Did I just get the wrong download?" Anyone heard of 'Driver Detective'? I told the new user that it sounded like a scam and not to do it.

yes, I have heard of it. pretty much any time you do ANY search engine for a driver you will go to some website that has Driver Detective for you to download. I have avoided it like the plague and he should too. tell him to go directly to m-audio's website, not search for drivers using google or yahoo

The new user PMed me again. He found the right site but wants to know how do you tell if the OS is 32- or 64-bit? Beyond reading the labels on the case, how do you find that out?

What OS? On Vista it's right-click Computer icon on desk top and click properties. Lists it all there.

He can go to control panel and double click "system". It will tell him the same thing there.

Cool. He PMed me several times while I wasn't at the computer. Anyone who wants to join in, he's Songman on the SHS forum. He's 13, not 14.

Most of those driver finder services seem to work as a scam. They always manage to find one 'outdated' driver which is the prompt to get you to sign up for a subscription. Having paid you then usually find out that your drivers are up to the mark anyway. As Reece already said always go direct to the hardware manufacturer for the latest updates.
