Stereo Track from mono input...
I'd like to record in stereo but only get a mono track (due to mono guitar input) inside Sonar. Is there a track input source to get a stereo track from my VS-100 into Sonar (like Stereo Main perhaps) ??? tx. Zap!

There is a saoftware option to convert mono to stereo. Is that what you are asking about?

I get three options in sonar for my vs100, left, right or stereo. Are you saying that you have only mono inputs? If so I'd look at the audio options settings panel in sonar.

zapotec i want to know the way to input a mono guitar and record a fully stereo track not only a left or right signal (into Sonar of course) Zap! What is the benefit of recording a mono signal (like guitar) as stereo? I'm curious, not arguing :) My first thought is that it will use twice the disk space, and you will lose your panning capabilities.

What, exactly, are you trying to accomplish, Zap? You can't record a stereo image from a single point source. You can manipulate a mono track within the stereo field. The stereo image is an illusion created by the difference in sound between two sources. There is no difference between one. Ideally, you would record a mono source to a mono track. You might find this thread of interest. http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2238078 It may address what I believe to be your question.

thanks guys; i'm used to seeing the stereo image from my j-station (and stereo mixer) and not a mono signal from a single input. (mono VS-100) Zap!

single input 1, and stereo selected audio track, i only can record to one half of the track (left side) I wanted to see the signal on both the left and right sides of the stereo track be it two of the same signals.

ok, i got you now. i would have to say the easy remedy, and maybe the only one would be to just split your gtr cable w/ a y-adapter and use the same stereo track input 1-2 selection in sonar. the one thing i could foresee doing this is that you'll need to split the gtr signal at the output of an external di-box, since only channel 1 on the vs100 has a "di-input."

zapotec single input 1, and stereo selected audio track, i only can record to one half of the track (left side) I wanted to see the signal on both the left and right sides of the stereo track be it two of the same signals. Don't use a "stereo selected track" if it's a mono instrument. Try this. If you have your guitar plugged into channel one the VS-100, then the Sonar Input for that track should be set to "LEFT VS-100 IN 1-2". That will give you a MONO guitar track coming out of both speakers. Use the pan control to push it to the left or right if you want. In the above setting, if you use STEREO 1-2 as your input in Sonar, then Track one gets bussed to the left, and track 2 is bussed to the right. That's not what you want for a mono guitar. EDIT: Don't worry about the mono track being mono. If you add effects to the track (reverb, delay, etc...) they will appear in stereo.

i'm assuming (there i go again) that there is a reason that you want to do this... to achieve an effect of some kind that you can't with just a standard mono track. if my assumption is correct, then doing what i described will allow you to record a dual-mono "stereo" track. if my assumption is not correct, then i don't know why you would want to do that.

Highlight the chosen Guitar track, make sure the Inspector tab is open on the left handside, below the In/out, select Track inputs. If the guitar is coming out of the left channel only, select Left Line In, If from the right channel select Right Line In. This should then turn the mono track into stereo. Hope this helps
