Loco Motion

I wrote and recorded this with the Geronimo Cowboys in 2008. At the time I was trying to write an entire cd of 60's music. I ended up burning out on that about 6 songs into it.

So, those tunes have been sitting in mothballs since 2008. Here's one of them.

Loco Motion

Thanks for taking a listen.

Well, you finished half a CD, so that's worth something!  :)

Glad to see you around again.  And this sounds so cool!  Nice and laid back feel.  That synth is great!  Love the harmonies.

    Thanks Janet - and Scott.

I've been off the chart busy since the beginning of the year - that could be short-lived - I'm seriously considering retiring by the end of this year.

The synth is my godin guitar played through Roland GR-30.

This is wonderful. The Byrds, Beatles and a few other notables come to mind but it is still totally yours. I am smiling as I listen – this is so cool. It’s a pleasure know that someone out there is writing this off the wall, quality material. The lyrics match the mescaline feel perfectly. Be proud, you have hit the musical nail on the head with this. Material is a 10, performance a 10 and originality is 11 (yes, it goes to 11).

Mark, you dog!!  This is great!  Is that Mike doing the harmonies?  Very  nicely done.  Hey, it's time for us to get back to work, huh?  Are you doing all the instruments?  I would guess, yes!  Wonderful feel to this.

This is an astonishing curve-ball ... vocs and psychedelia instruments have sprouted!  The Woodstock and 60's were a great thing, IMHO.

The vibe and feel is a bit wavy ... with the musical waves rolling in and out.  This would suit me better to enhance sensual events (a sensual-events enhancer) -- haha.

Anyway, due to the dreamy vox content (in my vox-centric universe), this is my fav of yours to date.

I love the spare aspect of it. Somehow a lot of your stuff from that era has what I think of as a Caribbean quality........you know, like, RETIRED  on an island with nut brown servant girls waiting on you as the sun sets (no disrespect ladies; they're well paid servant girls, with health benefits and everything, just like their male counterparts). But, you know, a lazy relaxed atmosphere. Anyway, good song.

This wonderful --- certainly a journey back to the time of love beads and bell bottoms.  This certainly has a Beatlesque feel to it.  Excellent performance and harmonies.
Retirement eh?  Having retired about 3 1/2 years ago, I can highly recommend it.  It takes a bit of adjustment but as my former boss told me (he retired about 4 years before I did):  "I couldn't tell you what it is that I have been doing but I am busier than I have ever been and pleasantly so."
    Great stuff Mark!

When I read what you say about getting burnt out during, or at some point during the
putting together of all this it reminds me of a couple of cd's that I had done years ago. One was
a sort of christain rythem and blues and the other was a sort of pop or James tayler type matereil.

I had them up on a web site and all but later took them down because they just weren't up to
standards in a way of sounding "good" or something that I wouldn't feel a need to make
excuses for what I think is less than good enough quality. Most of the "Pop" soft rock type songs
that I speak of have been and or are on my soundclick as forum members here have given feedback,
suggestions etc to aid in raising the bar on the quality of the final outcome of each song.

I pretty much reached a point (on those songs) where I felt like "more was needed" such as
re doing lots of things, so for the moment they are once again on "the back burner". (Everyone
did an awesome job on feedback) (but) I needed to re arange, re mix etc to do a better job
    on the final outcome.

In your case here even though the "era" subject is at hand this song has such a "something new"
about its' "production", such as the ways that sometimes an old song is done even with maybe an
old style type of "presentation" (but) something is different in ways that it has a cool and "creative"
    charactor to it.

The "guitar" performance, tone, mix arrangment etc really shows the talent in the contributions that
the guitar work does for the song. It's something that I enjoy listening to as a guitarist and
appreciate what and how things are done. It's inspiring. That is very noteworthy. I enjoy things like this
    being availible to listen to.

And I speak from a "value" point of view in saying this. If I had (someone over) and we were talking
"shop talk" mixing, guitar tones etc this would be one of those tunes where I could/would say hey!
check this out (he gets some cool sounds).
