Help me record my mixes please...

Hi,

I recently got UA-1G with Sonar 6 le so I could record my mixes. Anyway, when I'm done with recording and I play my mix it sounds like a scratched CD  with beats jumping from time to time which is really annoying.

Could I do something in Sonar settings that might help or my lap top is just too weak???

Please help, anyone...   Thanx

    Welcome to the forum!

What soundcard are you using? What drivers?  You surely could do something, but it would be easier to answer if we knew something about your settings and and what you have done this far. Are you recording audio or MIDI?

If your latency is set low, try increasing it to 10-12 milliseconds.
If you're using the onboard soundcard, try downloading ASIO4ALL drivers, they sometimes help.

You description of the problem does not give me a clear picture of the type of the problem.

Does the scratchy sound come only when you listen to the mix, or also when you listen to individual tracks?
Are you using some heavy VST?

We don't know if your laptop is too weak, 'cause we don't anything about it.

    Hey,

Here some more info on my lap top so u can help me better:

    HP Genuine Intel (R) CPU
    T2130 @ 1.86GHz
1.86 GHz, 0.99 GB of RAM

...using Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2

I'm using onboard sound card Conexant HD Audio output

I'm trying to record audio from my Pioneer CDJ's

Scratchy sound comes only when I listen to recorded mix, actually it only skips a beat every here and there (every 30 seconds or so)

If I can give u any more info please contact me.

    Cheers!

Your CPU is almost enough, you can manage with it, but less than 1 Gb of RAM is not enough. Windows alone takes most of it.
Also, it's not easy to operate SONAR with the onboard soundchips. They are not good enough.

Have you tried Windows Recorder? One option would be Audacity.

For some reason I can't upload anything even thou I cut a small sample of recorded audio (154kb) if u want I will send u on ur e-mail.

anyway, just imagine there's a couple of scratches on your CD and u can hear it skip a beat here and there...

    don't know whats wrong...

What about taking a deep breath and getting organised. What drivers are you using and what is your latency set to? These are the most basic things. Recording audio without overdubs the latency can be set quite high.

Secondly, you say you are using an integrated Conexant soundcard even though you have the UA. Why? The UA with ASIO drivers should be the only soundcard you use with SONAR.

Skipping beats when recording plain audio sounds strange. I tend to believe it's the missing RAM that cripples the whole machine. 1 Gb of RAM is hardly enough to run Windows, not to mention a recording software.

As I told u I'm not much of a computer expert.

I have integrated conexant sound card but when I'm recording I use UA-1G via usb. I downloaded ASIO4all drivers but I'm not sure that I set it properly.

I have some legacy audio drivers installed.

Where do I set the latency?

    Please advise on the steps.

    Thanks.

ASIO4ALL are not ASIO drivers. Download the ones specificly for the UA.

Try reading about latency in the help files. Surely there's something??!! Copy-pasting the help-files here doesn't sound like way to spend my evening (and I don't have the LE version). Maybe there's even tutorials ???

As I said i don't need anything special just simple recording in reasonable quality therefore i don't need to go trough any tutorials, help files... as I don't intent to use Sonar LE. I only tried it first cause I got the CD with UA-1G.
I'l try to find out more about all this drivers, latencies... surely I'l find the way.

    Cheers

    Hey, I made it!!!!!

It seems that all I had to do is to go to UA-1G setings in control panel and adjust audio buffer size to MAX.

My recordings are as smooth as a cake now:)))

    Cheers!

    Hey, it's me again.

When I posted my last message I managed to record one 20 minute mix without pops or beatjumps. After that I'm experiencing same problems for some reason. I even tried UA-1G on my friends laptop wich is stronger than mine (4GB RAM) and I'm getting the same results. I'm recording with Audacity now.
I tried all combinations with UA-1G setings: different buffer values... but nothing seems to work. Slowly starting to think that device has a flaw or something.

Any ideas? Pleaseeeeeee kinda getting desperate...

    Thanks

Obviously your computer is too small to run Sonar or any other DAW properly, since Windows will require all of the RAM and more. Did you install Sonar on your friend's lap top, and were the settings set properly? Did you run it in ASIO mode?
I think your only option is to buy a bigger computer and then make sure that the settings are set right. In the "Getting Started" tread on this forum, Cakewalk provides a video on how to set Sonar up. You should check that out.
