Anyone using UA-1G with 'off-the-shelf' laptop?

Exploring some options for live gigging -- strictly running soft synths.

Possible spec of Dell laptop:

    * Windows 7 Home Premium
    * Processor: Intel Core i3-350M Processor (2.26GHz, 3M cache)
    * 320 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
    * 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)

Looking to run 1 or 2 instances of Kontakt (or Rapture, Dim Pro, etc.).

Is latency tolerable for live performance < 8ms ?

             I used ua25ex for recording but it is a bit is too slow for soft synth. More like24ms. Yeah, I had tested ua25ex on a freind's laptop (i5 Cpu, 4 gig of ram, win7 64bit), it is still too slow for me.

             I also own an m-audio audiophile 2496 PCI card installed on a desktop which is perfect for soft synth. it's latency is less than 12ms, which is good enough for me for playing Dim Pro, truepiano and sessiondrummer3 from sonar PE8.5.
            Latency of <8ms is awesome for me. If you can find a device that can render softsynth at that speed using a laptop, please let me know. I would love to lay my hands on it!

            My bottom line is, you can rule out ua25ex for live performances.

    Thanks for the reply. I only gig a few times a year (sit in w/friend's band)...so I can't justify paying top dollar for a custom laptop. Oh well...

    Maybe I could build a rackmount PC cheaply and use this 7" monitor: http://www.tigerdirect.co...=6321953&CatId=164

    what mode did you run the UA in though ? 44.1 etc.. you might find that has an impact on things also.

    I don''t own one, but have seen folks mention it on here.

    I'm expecting my new laptop to arrive Wed. I'll report back w/details.

    In other testing (on a Gateway, Pentium T4300, 4GB RAM), using the onboard soundcard and ASIO4ALL drivers, get latency below 8ms running Kontakt.

    I use it on my Dell Inspiron 9400 (T7200). Win Xp32.

    Works great for mixing.

    I do not record with it.

    I am using Asio mode. 44.1 and 48. It is by far better than WASAPI in my experience. If you use softsynths that are less CPU intensive perhaps you can get by with faster latency.
