Not able to record MIDI in Sonar 8.5. HELP !!!

Hi,

I've been using Cakewalk/Sonar for over a decade. I never ran into problem like this before and it just makes me soooo frustrated and mad. I installed Sonar 8.5 and used USB midi controller to record midi. Everything was fine. Now I bought AVID M Box. After installation I connected my favorite midi controller  Roland A-30 through AVID midi IN and I can't record any midi notes. Yes , Sonar recognizes the Avid MIDI devices and they are selected. Also, in midi track i have selected input - MIDI Omni. When I record a MIDI track only some patch changes are recorded. No notes. The funny thing is that the MIDI works --  since I can record midi into other applications such as Sibelius or Cantabile performer. What am I missing here ???

have a little bit of patience.  10 minutes and you're paniking because no one has responded?

when you say your input to your MIDI tracks is "MIDI OMNI" that is a concern - it should be OMNI AVID or something similar.  you may have more than one MIDI input device selected.

so - what ARE your MIDI input devices in OPTIONS>MIDI DEVICES?

I am sorry about being "jumpy" but I spent all night trying any kind of combination of inputs, echo etc:
MIDI devices Inputs: Mbox External - checked, Mbox Control - checked.
outputs: : Mbox External - checked, Mbox Control - checked.

in the track :All inputs Omni
                        - Mbox External - omni
                            Mbox Control - omni

well that sounds OK then.  and if you're getting full MIDI in Sibelius using the same hardware setup but only some patch changes in sonar then I'm not sure what would cause that.

I can only suggest downloading and installing MIDIOX and you can use it real time to monitor what MIDI messages are being read by the avid box.

Update: MIDIOX is recording notes being picked up by mbox. so midi in is fine. the issue is within a sonar i guess!!!

this isn't normal behavior for sonar, of course.  try a NEW project and see if it's specific to the project.

what are you using for your softsynth output?  and are you using simple instrument tracks or MIDI/OUTPUT separate tracks?
