Measure Thrice, Cut Once, Repair!
My new shelf for the lappy reference monitors (Alesis Point Seven*) Bummer: The 22" computer monitor partially obscures the woofers. I am sure they will reflect off the back of the computer monitor. *I've had these since 1997 or so and they still rock.

I've got Alesis M1 Actives (very similar) and they DO rock! As for the monitor blocking the monitors (huh?), I used monitor arms so I could reposition things. As long as you keep the field near with you at the intersection you should be good to go. Here's a picture of my setup before I moved: [link=http://www.nwdreamer.com/pics/StudiosAndGear/TroutdaleStudio/01-Studio2010-14.jpg]http://www.nwdreamer.com/...o/01-Studio2010-14.jpg[/link] I noticed that you have dimmer switches on the wall behind your setup, have you had any problems with noise because of them? Just curious, because I did and ended up having to put in a light that was dimable directly (using a remote) and replacing the wall dimmer with an on-off switch...

You should know but it sure looks like a 24" . I remember how cool it was to turn mine on the first time. Now I want another one. I'd like to have that for X1 then everything would change.

Now that monitors have dropped like a rock in price (similar to hard drives), I'd like to have three. Why isn't two good enough? Well, with three you don't have the "seam" right in the middle which makes you sway left and right. With one in the middle you put the main stuff there and everything else off to the sides. To think you could have three 22+" flatscreen monitors for under $400 total just blows me away (I just bought two at $130 each for our PhD). My first really good 19" monitor (CRT of course) cost me over $1,300! Now you literally can't give those away (they actually want you to pay for them to take an old CRT!). For anyone interested in multi-monitor setups (including going WAY overboard), here's a useful site: http://www.multi-monitors.com/ BTW - I also like that Bapu has one of these on his board! You definitely need to have one if you ever want to get anything done!

I started explaining that I thought multi displays and large format displays get in the way of the sound... but it seemed like most of the cloud landers wanted to simply brag about their multi screen display systems and the way it made their bedrooms look more official. Sound first!!! I love the photo... I think it get's the point across quite nicely. best, mike

Mike, This is not my main DAW setup. It's the alternate lappy setup. But the size of the monitor gets in the way of proper triangulation for the speakers. I'd have to drop down to a 19" monitor in order to achieve that. On the opposite side of the room, the DAW is setup for sound first (even with the single 30" Dell)

Or position the screen to one side, leaving the speakers in yer face? Just a tip, you want to avoid doing this if at all possible. The constant looking to the side (especially if the height of the screen is higher or lower than eye level) can cause you to have some serious neck and shoulder pain. Plus, if you don't stop soon after the pain starts you might need to see a chiropractor.

How do these multi-monitor setups work, do they need dual headed operators? I find my indoor grenade launcher is much more of a hazard to my health than my screen especially when I use it to clean the carpet. p.s. Oregon is cool really...

Have you considered making yourself smaller? If you were, say, 20% - 40% smaller, you could use a 19" monitor and avoid the "My monitor's too big for my speakers!" conundrum. Hope that helps.
