Avid / M-audio support

My Delta 44 soundcard bit the dust some time last year.  I needed to get some work done so I bought a new soundcard right away and then decided to open a support ticket to try to get my D44 card repaired.  I did that and had exchange back and forth with support.  the last thing they told me to do was to uninstall the drivers, remove the card, reinstall the drivers and the card.  well - I didn't have time to do that so I let the ticket close before I could get to it.

so I have some time now to work on this, so I thought I'd do the task and re-open the ticket.  I did what they wanted and went to reopen the ticket to tell them it didn't solve the problem (I knew it wouldn't - this is a hardware issue).

ok - I can't reopen the ticket because it's been more than 25 days.  fine.  I'll open a new ticket and go thru their process again so that I can get this sent in and repaired.

wrong!  Avid now requires you to purchase an "Avid Support Code" - minimum of $30 for 15 minutes!!!

so I would have to pay for support AND pay for the repair.  forget it!  the card is not worth that much!  I guess it's just trash!

Even when you buy new I went through this (Excapt for the Intial Complimentary Ticket they issue ya). My only option was to go with Sweetwaters warranty on MAudio stuff. Sad way to work with your customers MAudio huh?  I think Im going to the ZEDR16 and getting rid of everything that plugs into my DAW and just do everything from the board.

yes, I don't like the new avid philosophy.  seems like you probably made a good call on sweetwater's extended warranty.  i normally don't buy extended warranties, but I think I would have for m-audio if I were buying m-audio again.

Wow! The Avid/MAudio policy really sucks!

I had an issue with my Delta 1010 a few years back (I had a bad cable) and they took care of it.  Considering their policy of having to pay for
a support ticket, I will re-think my future purchases.
