Figuring out X1
There are a lot of things I like about X1, but one of them isn't the "Help" menu. I guess CW's just waiting til X1 is more ready, but there are several entries that are confusing or absent. So I haven't been able to figure out how to use the Clips button efficiently. It seems that it has helped to make working with track envelopes less infutiating, but having to go back and have to click again to see the clip itself is an awkward interruption in workflow. Is there an simpler way to switch between the different views of a clip?

I think this has been discussed a few times recently. Check out this thread and see if it fits your problem? http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2240124&high=edit+filter In the help menu - look for "edit filter" rather than "clips button". There is a lot of info on the edit filter in the help file. Still - there are a lot of people not to pleased with the new implementation - your not alone. EDIT: The 3rd post by Humble in the link above may answer your question about quickly returning to the clip itself.

Haven't checked the link from codamedia so I may be repeating info but shift clicking on the clip gets you back to clip mode. Shift clicking on an envelope changes the edit filter to that envelope.

Yes, thanks all, that worked. But if your track layers are small vertically, finding the right thing to shift-click on can be a ****. I wouldn't mind a "strip" that would popup with a shift-click that would let me choose clip, all envelopes, or individual envelopes.

There's a drop-down menu for the edit filter. Cheers, Peter.

You can also press the middle mouse button (or mouse wheel) to open the Tools HUD that Peter mentioned. And for learning all the new changes in X1, you may want to check out my SONAR X1 Power book... http://garrigus.com/?PowerBooks Scott -- Scott R. Yes, I'm familiar with HUD. But it's another workflow/inspiration stopper: push the mouse wheel, click the Clips button, scroll thru the dropdown, click your choice, scroll to the submenu choice and then click it. By this time, I'm lucky to remember why I clicked it. (If you think that's funny, just wait.) I don't want to sound picky--too much--but it's all about keeping the head clear. We have plenty of things to keep track of when doing music, and the tools need not to add distractions or unnecessary chains of finding and picking. We all know this, and Cake does too. It's not the Dilberts, its the pointy-hairs. Further, there's no choice to see ALL the envelopes at once, which I'd like.

Actually you can see all the envelopes at once, although they will be in ghosted form. In the track view, open the "View" tab, then "Display" then tick "Display ghosted data". Perhaps the envelopes are all a little dark and similar in color (I think they are actually just a duller version of their original color, but probably too dull), but at least you can see them. And now you can see them, you can shift-click on them to edit them (faster than the edit filter menu or HUD), and then shift-click on a clip to get back to editing those. Cheers, Peter.

Once you click the middle button if you scroll you don't have to click on clips, it scrolls through that menu automatically. I'm actually loving the new changes. I think it's just a matter of getting used to how things work now.
