A plea for help to all Sonar RME400 users

Hi,

Just managed to buy a 2nd hand RME400, & using the free online manual I've got to grips with pretty much... pretty much... everything. Mmm.

Anyway, one thing still foxes me, though. Bouncing one track to another using the RME matrix.

OK, in it's simplest form for the sake of this post; I want to bounce one stereo audio track to another.
I change the output of that track to... say... RME outputs 3 & 4.
I create another track (put it in record) & set its inputs to 3 & 4.
I go to the RME matrix & click on the relevant ins & outs of 3 & 4 (that's right isn't it, you just click on them & the connection is made?)
I go the RME Mixer & have the relevant faders up for those channels.

Well, please could somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong 'cause this won't work?

SO frustrating.

Many thanks...

Nadine X

P.S. All new drivers & updates.

Assuming it's the same for the Fireface 800 and 400...

In TotalMix mixer, ctrl click (hold the Ctrl key while left clicking) on the hardware output channel label (3rd row in mixer) you want to loop back. It should turn red indicating loopback on.

In Fireface 800 manual this is under:
    31.5 Recording a Subgroup (Loopback)......................75

You can download manuals from RME here:

    EDIT:
Looks like it's actually on page 70 of Fireface 400 manual but instructions are the same...
    32.5 Recording a Subgroup (Loopback)......................70

Also, after reviewing your post a little more clearification needs to be made...

In Sonar, leave the output to channels 1&2. In TotalMix make sure Software Outputs (2nd row) 1&2 are routed to Hardware Outputs (3rd row) 3&4. Then do the Ctrl + click thing in TotalMix mentioned above. In Sonar add a new track with Inputs set for RME 3&4. Arm for recording and begin playback. You should be good to go.

    EDIT:
Really this is pretty easy to do but a little hard to explain the routing. The routing I posted above was just a simple example. You could easily use any number of I/O.
