inputing songs in a verse, chorus, coda, repeat, etc form
I have been using the cakewalk videos to learn how to use sonar x1 producer. While this informs on how to use the program it does inform on how to input a song in a (verse, chorus, coda, repeat, etc. form). Are there any videos or tutorials that you can recommend. thanks for any help

Sonar plays linerally from start to end. So you just have to lay out each part in order you want it to appear. So far example, if you want to repeat a 4 bar section 2 times, you just copy and paste the 4 section. For example, if I wrote the verse and chorus, I would just select those, copy and then paste the verse 2 at the end of verse 1. Which would give me verse 1, chorus 1, verse 2, chorus 2. You can of course drag different sections around to suit if you want to change them. Hope that helps,

There is options like these in other DAWs though. in cubase there's the "Arranger" or whatever it's called, and you can use it to play a project using markers and setting the order of playing specific parts. I find it convient to work with, but I would never use it to make a final project. jumping for one place to the other doesn't sound sound-healthy to me. it can make all kind of automation, tempo changes etc. go very wrong and other than that I guess it can cause cliiping-sound and a nont natural-continuity of the project.

Are there any videos or tutorials that you can recommend. thanks for any help The other posters here are correct. There is not song arrangement (if you will) functionality in Sonar. I like to compose this way myself and use Motu BPM and Kinetic to sequence with as rewire and plugin devices. Works for me but I would love for Cakewalk to roll Kinetic's pattern based sequencing in Sonar to simplify things. I BPM for drum programming and to access the UVI sound library(that is what it is limited to). Kinetic allow you use any vst fx and synths you which and midi editing is a breeze. To answer your question though it is really not that hard to set a loop of 4 or 8 bars and build the main groove of a song from there. Once you got that going simply select the bars from the timeline by left clicking and dragging from bar 1 to the end of bar 8 (for example). Once the is selected (you will see the bars highlighted) hold the ctrl key and click on every track you want to copy into the next portion of your song. You can just click and drag downwards on the top left corner of each track to select multiples. Next just slide your loops over to bar 9 and bars now 9 thru 16 should be selected. Copy and paste the first set of bars at bar 9. Make sure you are on track one when you paste or you end up with track 1 on track 3 (for example). Basically whatever you paste to will be the first track that get pasted into (you'll see what I mean). At this point I would create markers at the beginning of every set of 8 bars (for example) and name them accordingly (intro, verse, chorus etc). Just keep repeating this process until the whole song is built. This way it is as simple as adding variation to each section by removing, adding or changing parts. The cool thing is now you can use the marker presets on the transport to play around the song arrangement. The is even a program (i forget the name of it and I'm not at my studio pc) where you can map midi notes to mouse click positions on the screen which speeds up the workflow in both composing and mixing. I know I left a lot of holes here but just ask away and I'm someone if not myself will be able to fill things in for you. Enjoy!

I think he means a workflow that works like an old sequencer (ie append, play section 1 two times, etc) I don't believe Sonar has this feature but once you get used to the method Mathew mentioned it becomes 2nd nature and is pretty fast.

I know Finale does this. It does work in reverse. Import a midi file with that information and it will play from start to finish. The repeats and coda will be dealt with in a linear manner. I would imagine that Silbelious works the same way. TMK, Sonar will not do what you want.
