Screenset Problem and Output Recording Question

Hi there,
I'm new to Cakewalk Sonar X1 Producer.

For some reason I cannot figure out how to set a permanent screenset. Every time I restart Sonar it's back to default.

I run a dual-monitor setup, so naturally I want my left monitor to show the sequencer and my right monitor to show the mixer.
Any idea how to make this the default screenset? I'm really tired of having to rearrange everything every time I'm starting up Sonar!

The other thing I cannot figure out for the life of me is how to record the Output of a VST instrument.
What I like to do to save some CPU power/RAM is to load up a VSTi and record the output so I get a regular sound file, after that I delete the VSTi track. This actually helps a great deal when I'm doing productions that require tons of different tracks.
Now with Sonar I can only manage to record midi files and have them actively trigger the plugins to "make noise" however with a couple of VSTis loaded that use a lot of CPU power (ie lots of those Spectrasonics and NIs) things can get a little unstable at times...

Does anybody know how to solve my problems?

Thanks in advance and best regards!

A quick way to temporarily turn a vsti into an audio file to reduce CPU use is is to "freeze" the synth using the track's "freeze" button (see the manual p829, it's explained in detail there, also in the help).

To permanently turn a synth's output into audio you need to bounce it to a track. Mute everything you don't want to bounce down, then select "bounce to tracks" from the tracks menu.

Tell Sonar which track(s) you want the new bounced audio on, and whether you want mono, stereo or split mono tracks. Select the outputs/buses you want bounced and make sure everythign in the "mix enables" options is on/selected.

Then hit "OK" and that should do it. Again, the manual/help covers this in detail - look for "bounce to tracks".

winewood, Screen Sets are saved 'per project' so if you set up a Screen Set you like that Screen Set will only be saved for that project. If you want to save a Screen Set for future projects use a template and if you want it for every 'new' project save it as your 'Normal' template in Cake's default template folder, usually something like Cakewalk Content/X1 Producer/Project Templates.
