Freeze All is working!

Do you want to freeze several audio tracks or VST Synths at once? Until now it was impossible because if you select multiple tracks and try to freeze them SONAR freezes only the first track.

Sonar Plus has a brand new button in the floating toolbar: Freeze selected tracks!!!
It works! Now you can go make coffee while SONAR makes the boring freezing work for you.

Who needs freezing as today's computers have plenty of horsepower?
At least I need. I like Amplitube plug-in but it always crashes if looped twice or more.  Freezing tracks with Amplitube prevents it crashing.

Thanks you Ben!

Official new Sonar Plus version is coming until weekend. RC candidate is available at SONAR Plus.

Just for clarity - Sonar always froze all tracks of the SAME synth (ie, multi-out synths).

This new function (based on the benstat add-on) sounds good though.

But as for the need for freezing ...  I almost never need to freeze anything but I do for other reasons ...

Sometimes it's much more convenient to work within the audio-only domain.   And, there are different approaches to mixing/editing when staying in the audio-only domain.

Another advantage of doing so is consistency.   Some synth patches change over time (like with LFOs, etc).   Freezing can keep it consistent.

And, of course, one can easily unfreeze if need be (with the caveat that any edits/changes to the audio portion will be wiped out).

It's nice having all the options, of course :)

Couldn't agree more with both of you...

It's no longer very necessary to freeze, but it does get rid of some clutter and in many situations (Billy mentioned a few) it's even important...

But in any case... Previously each instrument (or track if it's  simply an audio track as opposed to synth output) had to be frozen individually ...ie totally manually and kept us chained to the macihine doing nothing but waiting and starting each track...

Now with Ben's app (Sonar Plus) we can select all the track, click freeze and go have a drink..... Much better use of our time! ;-)

Many thanks Ben... and Panu for taking so much of the pain out of X1...!

I think the biggest reason to freeze is when you are done with a track.  Freeze all synths, and then save it both as a regular file and as a bundle.

I backup the bundle files on DVD or Blue ray as needed (and often on a second hard drives as well).   This way if you go back to the song years later you can still open it even if you don't have the synths anymore. Nothing worse than to loose all that work.

I just move the audio to a new track before I unfreeze, then audio is saved.

Also it's fabulous when you start mixing.  Freeze all.  Start mixing.  If needed unfreeze/freeze individual tracks.  Yes please, I want some!

Wow, that is ridiculously cool.  I can't tell you how many times I've needed to freeze an entire project for archival purposes.

    Thanks!

While I think it's great Ben has put this in his add-on, I'd much prefer to see it as a real feature as part of Sonar.

I am always a tad concerned with add-on things (though at least Ben's is harlmess).

    Hi Billy,
I agree. I'd much rather see features like this built-in to SONAR. I've said it before - I hope Cakewalk make SONAR Plus obsolete as quickly as possible! But, this works well in the meantime.
    Thanks,
    Ben

I thought I read that you could Select All the tracks (Ctrl-A), and then Ctrl-Click or Shft-Alt-click (can't remember) and then you could do something to all the tracks ... like freeze them.  Am I hallucinating?  With X1patchD, do I still have to resort to an add in to freeze all my tracks?  Or is there a 'native' way I am just too stupid to find in the docs or Garrigus' X1 book?

I am still running X1 on a Pentium D 3.2ghz.  It can't keep up.  I have a new cpu, mb, and memory waiting for the chance to upgrade, but can't decide whether I want to move from XP to Win7/8 only to find out half my junk won't work.

If X1 had added just that one feature, I might not still be at 8.5. I can't for the life of me understand why it's never been implemented.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Yeah, I've just read your other thread about wanting to stay on XP32. Maybe you've just answered your own question?

I was in your situation a year or so ago - in the end I jumped onto Win 7 and have gone 64 bit throughout.

Are there any plugs that don't work in 64 bit? Yes, a few.

Do I miss them? Not anything like I thought I would - plus I can access ALL of my 32Gb of RAM which means I never have to freeze anything.
