Should work ok... I'm running a desktop with a core2duo 2.00GHz 4K-RAM machine and I've had no issues... as far as this aspect.

What sound card? The computer looks, but if you're planning to use the built in sound, then you won't get good results.

you should be fine to run this..but dont exspect your sound card to work to well.youll need an interface if you wanna say, plug your guitar in or drum machines,bass...exc..youll run into latency issues..if your not sure what latency is do a quick search..its when you hit a note and it comes out a half second later

Since X1 is only working on a few computers in the world, no one can predict if it will work on a laptop but likely not.  You need a better audio card, probably something off a usb port, faster hard driver, and an SSD drive.

Hi, Krazie - I've been running Sonar on my laptop which is similar to yours.  Works great with 8.5, and it's OK with X1, except that with X1 the interface components don't adapt to screen size.   I need to collapse the control bar to see the tops of things like the inspector, but that works OK.

Mine is an HP Pavilion dv9700, 64 bits, Vista, AMD Dual core at 2.10 Ghz, 4 gigs of ram.  I'd say your computer is a bit more high powered than mine.

BUT there's no way you'd make things work with your built in sound card.  You really can't even consider doing that.  I'm using a relatively humble Alesis iO|2 for my interface - it's mandatory you get something like that.  You need Asio.  It's impossible to make the built in card work for a recording program like Sonar.

EDIT:  I meant to add that I have large 17" model, and the highest resolution is 1400 X 900.  That's less than Cakewalk says is the minimum - hence not being able to see everything, as I mentioned.  I have a second monitor plugged into the laptop, and that makes life a lot easier, but of course that still doesn't fix the slight vertical disadvantage I'm at.

just to let you know..i have an intel 2.40ghz with 4 gig of ram and its running very smooth here.sdpate is right and it could be different with everyone but dont be scared off cause your on a laptop.i got windows 7 64bit too..i can get 25 tracks and a mass amount of effects.but you will need an interface, your toughest problem may be getting one that plays nice with windows 7..private message me when you get ready to get your interface, ill give you a small list of ones that have good drivers keep updating them and are compatible.good luck

randy, that alesis i02,did you use asio4all??it dont come with drivers does it..only the io2 portable.
but that wouldnt be a bad interface for him to start with, budget wise.its only a hundred bucks

AH, good call, Chuck - My Alesis comes with 32 bit drivers, and I still use Sonar in 32 bit even though I have a 64 bit machine.  When I've experimented with 64 bit, I did need to use Asio4All.  The results weren't stellar - they were OK, there was just no improvement in any way, so I went back to 32 bit so I could use all my plug-ins without hassling with bit bridges.

Really, Krazie - We're not just saying that the built in card "won't be as good" - we mean that you'll be basically dead in the water and wanting to throw your laptop out the window.  It just doesn't work - those cards aren't meant for demanding programs like Sonar.  Spend somewhere between 1 and 3 hundred and you can get the interface you need.

Gee, it worked on my Vista Intel dual core and when I upgraded to Win7 64bit it also works. How lucky am I! Probably I don't do enough "demanding" work on it to crash it.
