Automated way of shortening midi notes ?
Is there a simple way of shortening midi notes in order to create a small space between them. I am trying to get some downloaded midi files to sound better. For example, a trumpet line that has four sixteenth notes of the same note, sounds almost like one quarter note. I think if I could shorten each note, to almost, but not quite staccato, it would bring the attack of each note out better and also not sound so legato for moving lines. Is there a midi plugin or Cal script or something else that does this without going into the PRV and shortening each note by hand ? Thanks Ron

You may also consider changing or adjusting the sample preset for faster attack on the ADSR envelope. In midi PRV you can lasso or select all those notes; moving one will drag all by that amount.

Ah, simpleman, that last comment is exactly what I needed and does the trick. I can't believe I hadn't noticed that you could change all notes at one time. As far as changing the attack in the sampler, that didn't work. Its like the close spaced notes don't allow the attack to be played. Anyway, I do thank you for your solution. Ron

Another method is selecting the range in the time line/lasso, then "L" which brings up the note length dialague. Here you can adjust it by percentage and it will remain as the default. Un check the start time box or you will shorten/move the start times as well.

Thanks lorneyb2. That is the command I was looking for in the first place. To change by a percentage. I did find the command under Process>Length, however, the "L" does not bring it up here. "L" turns looping on and off. Did you perhaps create a key binding for this ? Anyway, it works, so I appreciate the help from both you guys.

I now think I may have created the binding. I opted for that as I use it quite often and the looping is easily accessible from the control bar. I assumed it was the standard because it showed up in my pull down menu. Sorry for the bum steer.

Ron I see you have the length problem licked - that's an easy and oft needed edit to do in PRV. But I wanted to point out that changing the attack, and the apparent ineffectiveness of that, all depends on the samples being used. Some samples will respond well to having the attack envelope instant, "0," giving you the more aggressive sound you're wanting for those fast lines. Other samples will just have slightly mushy attacks that can't really be fixed, even if you do fancy footwork with the whole ADSR. It all depends on what instruments/sounds you're using - So, I would encourage you to experiment with various brass sounds in your collection. Randy B.

Select all the notes to be affected by click and drag. Once the group is selected you can adjust one for length and the rest will adjust correspondingly. That would be my approach unless I missed something here.
