Thanks for the info. I'm always looking for good books like this, even though most of them end up on the bookshelf unread.

There are many good songwriting books. I have a few by Jason Blume and Robin Frederick. I recommend both writer's materials on songs and writing. Each one has a different area of strength for different areas of music. I've had the opportunity to meet and set in on classes taught by both of these songwriters. Great advice in the classes and the books. Most people buy a book looking for the secret, when the secret is hard work and applying the lessons you learn in the books. You must hone the skill and you do that by writing songs.

So you're saying a rhyming dictionary isn't enough? Wow have I been misled! (BTW - What rhymes with "orange" anyway?)
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

You don't need a book, but for most people, a bit of help is appreciated and needed to get them pointed in the right direction. The rhyming dictionary has got to be one of the hardest things to use..... I hate those things. I use Masterwriter now. You type in the word you want a rhyme to and it comes up with all the possibilities including phrases and secondary rhymes and imperfect rhymes. Some words have very few rhymes and other have 18 pages to choose from. To me that is so much easier than thumbing through a book.

I use it to store my songs in a logical way.... you can import the finished audio and link it to the lyrics. I also love the Songuard feature for proving date of creation. Many of the libraries don't want copyrighted songs... for reasons that make perfect sense. They copyright them for me after I sign the song to them. I also use it to find the many rhyming words that are available when I am writing. I love that program. I recommend it to all writers, and now they have reduced the price so it's a very good deal. At the time I bought it, I got a 1/3rd discount as a BMI member, everyone now gets that same rate.

Downloading the demo now. Thanks. I think I'll try the monthly option for a few months to see if I end up using it a lot...nice to have that kind of option.

Master Writer also does regular updates.... more phrases and words.....I used it yesterday to search a word for a rhyme..... there were 7 pages of rhymes, then I did a phrase search for that same word...... wow, there were 38 pages of phrases for that word.

That Master Writer would do wonders for me, since i write about death and immorality almost all the time and it's hard to rephrase "destruction" all the time. My arsenal is running dry.
