High Speed Laptop for X1 with Low DPC Latency ..... suggestions please ?

Hi all

I know my desktop stuff really well, but am *very* new to DAW Laptops.

My main requirments:-

- I run everything at 48 or 64 samples
- use lots of VSTi / EFX and Live Input Monitor everything

As such I need a  *fast*  Laptop  with  very low / very even / non-spiking DPC Latency.

Any known models / brands that are known to have very low / very even / non-spiking DPC Latency ?

Many thanks,
Tim

    Hi Tim,

If you want to checkout off-the-shelf units, take a flash-drive with the DPC latency checker with you.

Given your performance requirements (similar to mine), I wouldn't bother looking at anything but top-tier laptops.  To get a laptop that'll allow you to effectively work at a 48-64-sample ASIO buffer size (with substantial loads), you're looking in the $3k+ range.

My advice:  Build a custom mini-ITX i7 based machine... and pair that with a small monitor and mini wireless keyboard (includes glide-point).  This is far less expensive, will give you exactly what you need performance-wise, and you can easily fit the whole lot into a relatively small padded/rolling case.
I'm doing exactly this with my live rig (i7-870 mini-ITX) and I can run the most dense/complex layers of Kontakt, Omnisphere, Ivory, etc.  Almost feels like unlimited performance... and all at a 48-sample ASIO buffer size (completely glitch-free)

    Best Regards,
