And now for something completely different....
So sorry I've not been able to do much reviewing lately, work has been dominating my life. But I did manage to do this over the weekend. I've loved this tune since I first heard it, because I've always been into astronomy and physics. I decided it needed to be a simple acoustic tune. Please enjoy and it's educational too! The Galaxy Song http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=582907&songID=10398341 The Galaxy Song from Monty Python's THE MEANING OF LIFE Just… Re-member that you’re standing on a planet that's evolving, And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour... That's orbiting at ninety miles a second, so it's reckoned, The sun that is the source of all our power. The sun and you and me, and all the stars that we can see, Are moving at a million miles a day. In an outer spiral-arm at forty thousand miles an hour Of the galaxy we call the Milky Way. Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars, It’s a hundred thousand light-years side to side. It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light-years thick, But out by us it's just three thousand light-years wide. We're thirty thousand light-years from galactic central point, We go 'round every two hundred million years. And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions, In this amazing and expanding universe. The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding, In all of the directions it can whiz. As fast as it can go, that's the speed of light you know; Twelve million miles a minute, that's the fastest speed there is. So remember when you’re feeling very small and insecure, How amazingly unlikely is your birth, And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space, 'Cause there's bugger-all down here on the earth!

Hi Daryl, I like this version more than the one in the movie. And something completely different. Wasn't expecting this to work as an acoustic song, but it does, and there is a guitar solo, excellent. Greetings, Rik P.S. Ni.

I think we're actually spinning at about 1,000 mph vs. 900? Specifically, at 1,040 miles/hour. I think anyone who would deny the existence of intelligent life elsewhere in the galaxy, let alone "the universe" is someone who doesn't understand the scale of the thing... It boggles the mind... I don't remember this as a Python tune :-) But I'm sure it was, it sounds like something from one of their flicks. Good job.

Thanks all. Yes Eric Idle of Monty Python stepped out of refrigerator to give a old housewife a perspective of life... and he did it in a pink tuxedo! Since I didn't have a pink tuexedo, I figured I better stick to my genre. Vicente - Do I detect a background or interest in physics? Robby - Of course it's not exactly 30,000 light year to the center of galaxy either but it rolls off the tounge better ;>) HOWEVER, if you are at the proper lattitude, then the Earth does rotate at 900 mph at that point on the globe. I glad most felt the mix was clear, I owe of what progress I've made in mixing and recording from everyone on this site. As always - THANK YOU ALL for guidance and inspiration. Daryl

A rich deep baritone voice stands clearly out in this nicely mixed tune. Solo guitar is sweet. Nice recording which has good mid tones.

Hi Daryl - Definitely better than the original - and I loved the original. Sadly, there is no intelligent life in this Universe. Every potentially intelligent life form is given their own Universe. So like petulant children, we can do what we want with it and not upset the neighbours. In the unlikely event that a species ever does develop an iota of intelligence, a very large foot will descend from the Heavens and stamp them out. HE doesn't like competition! But we are safe, as there is not chance whatsoever of that sanction ever needing to be applied to us! Best Regards Malcolm

Malcolmb - I would love to discuss the philosophy of life in the universe you sometime. I asked a minister and astronomy buff once, why God placed the stars so far apart.. He replied... to keep us humble. No one knows the origin of life, divine or by chance, many have faith or theories, but no one KNOWS for sure. My feeling is EITHER WAY and whether intelligent life is common or uncommon, I believe that, even at a RELATIVELY high density, the average distance apart would still be too far to ever make contact. And that assumes not only a close spacial relationship, but even more unlikely scenario where both species live at the same point in time. But everyone should contemplate these things. Right now I'm reading Brian Greens new book on the potential for parallel universes, so you might be right ;>) I've read both his other books, he's a good writer. I have a large library of physics, astronomy, and cosmology. I particularly like discussions about the ORIGIN of live. NOT evolution, people often argue origin and evolution as though they were one and the same subject... they are NOT, they are light years apart. So you are probably right and we basically agree, even though our reasoning may differ. Please everyone, let's not turn this into a philosophical thread. Sorry. Thank you. ;>)

Hi Daryl - I would equally enjoy such a discussion. I always like the view that Universes were like apartments in an apartment building of infinite size. Each joined but separate. All you have to do is find where the stairs are and you can move between Universes. With an infinite number of Universes, every possibility will occur. So in one Universe, I am a successful composer. Sadly, it isn't this one! Oh well, where-ever I am, I wish me well! Best Regards Malcolm
