Jumpy Performance and AudioSnap Transients
This is weird, but maybe someone else has run into this problem and can help. I've been having problems with a current project where scrolling tracks up and down and left and right is slow and jerky. I tried a few different solutions and thought I had it fixed, but now the problem has come back again. However, the plot thickens... I found that if I delete all of the files from the picture cache (WOV, WTM, WTR) it fixes the problem. However, now when I start up the project, a message appears saying: "Transients are in the process of being generated. Depending on project settings, playback may be different until the process is complete." This seems to refer to the use of AudioSnap. However, I did not use AudioSnap anywhere on this project (unless I inadvertantly clicked on something by mistake). After the project is open and I turn on the Transient Tool, I can see the transients on audio clips. When I turn it off, the jumpy scrolling, etc. disappears and all seems fine. So, it seems that Sonar thinks that AudioSnap is in use on this project, however it is not. Does anyone know how I can remove all instances of AudioSnap from a project to correct this problem? I think that may be the solution. Thanks! BTW, I never use AudioSnap, except for messing around with it when I first upgraded to 8.5.2 a long time ago.

I haven't seen that problem, dave. jumpy scrolling tho, I would look at your video card, video memory and related issues. what video card are you using and do you have it's latest drivers? how much video ram does it have?

I did install new drivers for my video card as recommended by Jim Roseberry at StudioCat (who built my PC). After that, I did a marathon session of recording 26+ tracks last Saturday without a hitch and thought everything was fine. But then, when I re-opened the project this week, the transient message mentioned above appeared and the jumpy scrolling problem reappeared. I also found a clip with transient markers appearing. Would it make any sense to delete and let Sonar recreate the audio.ini file in this instance? Would I lose anything by doing this?

you wouldn't lose anything except your custom settings if you have done any and it would return to default (on startup it will want to run a profile for WDM driver mode). I'm not sure that will help, but I can't say it would hurt.

Not sure if I want to do the audio.ini thing (yet). Bottomline is that when I open the project (which I never used AudioSnap on) all maneuvering around the track view is slow to respond and jumpy (scrolling, transport controls, etc.) Then, if I enable AudioSnap and then disable AudioSnap everything behaves the way it is supposed to. Also, every time I open the project (whether I have cleared the Picture Cache or not) I get the following message before the project loads: "Transients are in the process of being generated. Depending on project settings, playback may be different until the process is complete." I'm about ready to try the audio.ini trick, but open to any other suggestions before I do so. The problem certainly seems related to AudioSnap somehow.

hey dave, I sort of had that problem too. But I did use audiosnap, but then deleted it, but still get that message. I don't know why, except maybe something in the set up of that project shows audiosnap... such as in the .ini... but don;t quote me... What I eventually had to do was import the wavs into a new project so I would not get that message

What I eventually had to do was import the wavs into a new project so I would not get that message Yeah, I tried that too. But the problem seemed to carry over from the old project to the new project. Then, I created a whole new project (with no material from any other project) and the problem arose again. Something weird going on here. Gonna give Tech Support a shout. Thanks.
