Help Sonar 8.5.3 Studio MIDI Help

When I added the update 8.5r3 I have not been able to get any sound from my midi files and my midi devices are not showing up any help on how to correct this.
My midi devices tab is blank not even Microsoft GS Wavetable is showing up
Tried to upload an image but can not see how to that.
Thanks

what midi devices do you have connected to your computer?

MS GS Wavetable typically only shows up in MME driver mode.  are you using MME driver mode?  if so what soundcard are you using?

well, for one thing I have a hard time believing that the onboard realtek will actually work in 24bit/96kHz, if those are the settings you have for it then I suggest you change them to 16bit/44.1kHz.

but you still didn't tell me what devices you have connected to the computer and how they're connected which you are missing from the MIDI DEVICES.

you said originally you can't get sound from your MIDI files - how were you getting sound before the update?  thru MIDI devices connected to the computer or thru MS GS Wavetable?

and you haven't answered which driver mode you're using.

ok.  MS GS Wavetable won't show up or work in WDM driver mode.  WDM is default.  if you want to use MS GS Wavetable you have to change your driver mode to MME/32 then let the wave profiler run.

however, I would suggest you change your outputs to use TTS-1 instead (you'll have to insert it) because the sounds are much better and the export is much better and you avoid problems like this in the future if you use TTS-1 instead of MS GS wavetable.

the MS GS Wavetable is really only there to play midi for windows and is not a very good sytnh.

    Thanks Beagle:)
Can you point me to some tuts or videos for doing this "I would suggest you change your outputs to use TTS-1 instead" and what driver mode should I use the default WDM

the tutorials in the help files are a great place to start.  press F1 on your keyboard and that will bring up the help files.  there are links on the front page of the help files to the tutorials.

http://www.herbhartley.com/ also has some "laymans terms" tutorials about softsynths (guitarhacker on the forum).

also, for videos, go to youtube and search for cakewalk.  there are several video tutorials there as well.

as long as your soundcard works in WDM driver mode, it's the better one between MME and WDM.  so as long as the soundcard itself works there, just leave it in WDM.
