F is for Fake

Has anyone seen the Orsen Wells film F is for Fake?

It's a fun documentary about some aspects of the art collecting world.

I wonder what other folks think about it?

best regards,
mike

Somehow... it's easy for me to imagine Mr. Welles and bapu having a conversation and a 7 course luncheon on the patio by the pool. I can even imagine Jack Nicholson stopping in after an all nighter to bum a Cohiba.

I have a movie recommendation for you Mike, if you haven't seen it: it's called "Interstate 60". A great satire and very funny. In one scene a museum shows priceless originals to a group of art critics, then secretly moves them into a studio where they are presented as cheap fakes. The critics are unanimous in their assessment of the crappy quality of the "fakes".

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

He also did a pretty cool documentary about Nostradamus. I have it on VHS.

I remember hearing about a practical joke that took place during a Van Gogh exhibit.  Someone framed an old piece of meat and hung it on a wall with the caption of "Van Gogh's Ear" and it drew more attention than the real pictures.  Figures!

There was also a cool show on TV that proved humans don't pay very good attention and yet will swear that they are sure about something.  In one part they had people come in to a store where one person met them, then that "employee" ducked down and another popped up.  None of the customers noticed even when the difference was in stark contrast (like different hair or race).  Afterwards they were asked and most said they were 100% confident that they had only dealt with one person.  Their reactions were great when shown the two people side-by-side.  Just goes to show that there's no such thing as a truly competent witness.

I saw the Penn and Teller Bullsh*t episode where they filled "fancy" bottled water bottles from a hose and the the server explained all about the water and of course the patrons' reviews matched that of the sever's description.

Wasn't that the same episode where they had "Juan" grillin' in the back of a fancy restaurant and making cheap dairy whip for dessert?  Loved that one!
