Anyone using FXpansion's Geist?

Downloaded a few days back.  Trying to learn in my (limited) free time.  Seems cool.  I have it set up with 8 different audio outs (to capture different parts of the drums - bass/snare/toms...).

I have printed out the manual and need to read it, but I would appreciate any feedback you could give as to generally operating this in the X1 environment.

Thanks

SPLAT Pro lifetime, ADK 6 core 3.6Ghz with 32 GB RAM, SSD 1TB system drive, 3 3TB regular drives for samples, recordings and misc.  Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad.  2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1.  More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent.  Zendrum!!!

Yes. And its amaaaaazing - and way deeper than Guru, so take time to learn its various ins'n outs (especially the routing, and the sampler). Its a very smooth, well thought out program. The Geists  'Song Mode' is what Sonar's 'Matrix View should be, btw. I don't use x1, but it works fine in 8.53. Fxpansion is a great company.

    You're in an amazing state.

    So stay there.

I have and use Geist (though not as much as I'd like to YET).   I agree with vespesian that it's amazing.  A bit of a learning curve if someone is not use to this approach (similar to Guru but much better); but powerful indeed.

I haven't used it in X1 though, so I can't speak to that.   It works very well in 8.5.3 (I'm at version 1.0.2 which is the most recent update).

Just think of each "engine" as a separate "machine" so to speak.   You could use it with just one engine (many would and probably do) since each 'engine' provides a ton of power on its own (many patterns, etc).

And I think if you play with it, and look at how some of the included projects are layed out, it will eventually come clear.

It will take time if you're not used to this type of GUI / feature set, as I said; so take your time with it.

It is a brilliant plugin, though.

I am trying to get my arms around it.  My only prior experience with FX was Fusor/Strobe/... Dcam I think they called it

Geist is not a synth in that regard.   It's a powerful drum module that can also sample, slice and dice, trigger, handle wavs/rex/etc, has built in fx and mixer, pads, layering, and the list goes on.

It's more like NI's Maschine but without hardware.

For those who don't want to spend on Maschine, Geist would be a good choice (moreso than even BPM from MOTU which is nice, but not nearly as feature rich).

just got this, had a try with the demo, liked it loads so bought it from digital village (UK) £159 - cheaper than the download store.

I think this will replace reason and recycle in my setup and maybe battery 3 for some tasks.

It's a shame that cakewalk couldn't of done something similar years ago with cyclone or even more recently beatscape, but they should certainly take note, i hope it gives the matrix view a kick up the arse, a feature i'm yet to get to grips with but i'm certainly holding out hope for the future!
