New song!! Cover with Emilie Weiss ("High Above") **NEW MIX UP**
Hey guys! So my friend Emilie Weiss and I have been meeting regularly to write and play music, and this is the sort of "firstfruits" of it. This song was originally written and performed by Phil Wickham (awesomely, I might add), and so we kept everything he wrote into the song, but we did write a sort of tag/bridge bit that comes in right before the second chorus. Emilie has BG vox/Main vox, and I have main vox, guitar, and piano. "High Above" - Phil Wickham Cover To God be the glory! He is so good. :) Let me know what you think! I recorded, mixed, and EQ'd this in my bedroom.

I've never heard this one. It sure is beautiful, and you two sound like a great team! :) Beautiful guitar playing and you both have great voices. The only thing that sticks out to me is that it seems there's a little too much verb on her vox sometimes. I love that bit at 2:00--what instrument is that? Is that the tag you wrote? It's beautiful! The cello(?) and percussion are great there too. Cool ending too. You're doing a great job!! :)

Hey there Nick, She may be a little too wet w/verb. I like the guitar playing. She's hard left, and you're right, when she sings solo? I'd put her in the middle. When you sing solo? I would put you in the middle. If you want to split it when she sings, that's OK, but when it's solo? Bring it down the pipe. i.e., do some dynamic panning while the song is playing. Don't just leave it static.

It's just not that great sounding because it's a synth/sampler preset.

I was afraid that was a piano. :) Try eq'ing it at 1k and see if that warms it up a bit. I'm afraid you may have to fork out some cash to get a good-sounding piano (believe me...I tried everything!), but for $170 you can get an amazing one. I know...that sounds impossible now. But it may not be forever. :)

I'll definitely look into that later on if I ever seriously learn piano. :P But for this song, I put it there because of it's "toy-like" nature. I wanted the innocence to come out in that tag we wrote.

Then it's perfect if that's what you had in mind. I really do like that tag. :-)

Too much reverb on Emilie. Just put enough that you can barely hear it. A bit off tune on the singing on 0:26. Otherwise singing is wonderful. The main guitar is a bit too loud and I would add a bit more reverb and delay on it to give it more space. Very nice track overall

And yeah...I'm not that great of a singer....at all. I'll go back and work on it. I'm putting together a demo cd of sorts for a college I'm trying to get into for music. So all this fine tuning advice is great. God's good! :)

wonderful tune...great job! Only thing I wasn't overly crazy about was the cymbals panning L/R three times at the end...once maybe...and it needed to be pushed back in the mix...I've used that more then my fair share so I do "get it"...but it needs to sit back in the mix and help the part travel...as is it too upfront and a focal point...and as with any good efx/trick less is more...IMHO I think you two did a great job..lovely!!

Thanks, bro! I actually am about to put a new mix up. I think I remember lowering the volume of those.

Wow, I don't know about that, nightrider - lol. I have a lot to learn still. Thanks, Rik! That means a lot, man. I do recommend checking out Phil Wickham's music though - it's really good!

Would love some new input on the new mix - I think I got it this time. (Sorry for all the double posts...totally uncalled for)
