RME Fireface users, are you having stability problems?
Hi I have a system with the following specs: i7 3.2 G 12 GB RAM 4TB in 4 drives plus a couple external backups MOTU MTPAV midi RME FF 800s (2-going to 3 when I get my Toft Board) - running on a PCIe Firewire 800 interface... UAD2 quad I have been getting a large number of crashes since upgrading to X1a. (or X1 for that matter) that never happened with 8.5.3 or whatever the latest release was of the old timey Sonar. I noticed a few posts where people using Fireface 800s were having lockups and crashes. So, I had a few questions. Are those of you with FF800s using them in 800 mode or a Firewire 400 interface? Are any of you using the FF400s having issues? Is there a possibility that either the new RME drivers or something in X1 are not working well together? Or am I just doping smoke? Thanks
Some people call me Maurice SPLAT Pro lifetime, ADK 6 core 3.6Ghz with 32 GB RAM, SSD 1TB system drive, 3 3TB regular drives for samples, recordings and misc. Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad. 2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1. More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent. Zendrum!!!

I have a FF 400, and I was having all sorts of crashes until I updated my driver to version 3.034 a few months ago. Since then, I've been as stable as a rock. The only issue I've had have been with a few bugs in X1, but nothing major. You imply that you have the new drivers. Did you have problems with the previous driver? I hope you find your answer because I'm sure all RME owners are interested, especially because the RME forum rarely offers much help.

I have a Fireface UFX running via Firewire with latest firmware and drivers & have some stability issues - mainly when changing audio driver sample speed and bit depth - sometimes I lose audio and need to reboot to restore it. In speaking with RME, they felt Sonar (or other software - I also use BFD2 and Waves GTR3) weren't releasing the audio driver as needed. I only picked up the UFX after upgrading to X1, so can't comment on performance with 8.5.3. I figured I'd wait until the X1b patch came out before investigating the issue much further. Hope that helps. Russ

Intel i7 960 3.2 Ghz 12 GB RAM Win 7 x64 1 Fireface 800 running @ 400 Driver 3.02 Firmware 2.77 Rock solid since forever... on XP SP3 and now Win 7 x64 Could be your issues stem from having 2 Fireface 800s daisy chained @ 400? Or, you don't have your system overclocked, do you? And you have TI chips for FW interface?

Oh, I forgot to mention: I have 2 FF800s, too. - You must use Firewire 800 cables if you use 2 x FF800. Cables should be same lenght from unit 1 to unit 2 and from unit 1 to FF800 card. - If possible, disable unused ADAT inputs to save bandwidth. - Be sure to use Texas Instruments chipset in Firewire 800 interface. 2 x FF800 work fine in my system - for some time. There's some bug in the MS Firewire driver that cause huge offset in recorded tracks after random amount of takes. That's why I avoid using 2 units. Otherwise there's no crackling; if playback or recording starts it works always perfectly.

ive had a FF800 for years (winxp SP3, rme drivers 3.0.20, 2.77, TI firewire card) and have been having issues recently with sonar X1 and outside of sonar too. every once in awhile the system will "stutter" and it will loop what sounds like a single cycle waveform and i have to turn off the FF800. when it boots back up a second later, the red led stays lit. multiple reboots do not help. the only thing that cures it is a full system reboot. this sucks. i even sent my ff800 back to the stateside service center and they ran it for 48 hrs without any issues. strange that this happens with sonar and with things like internet radio and other sounds too. sometimes playing mp3's or youtube clips too. one time about 3 years ago i had an issue with the red led constantly being lit no matter what. i tried everything i could think of and nothing worked. finally i hooked up a laptop to it and used another cable. this made me realize that the cable had "gone bad" and while nothing else physically changed, i wondered how it happened. i had always subscribed to the theory of "a cable cannot go bad" but i was wrong. makes me wonder if this cable is also "going bad"

No issues with me - 2.992 and 2.77 firmware, although I did just have to get my power supply replaced as it had fried after six years in the rack. Apparently a fairly common, known issue. About a week and $US150 (Australian distributor). Pretty painless. Q.

No issues here. I use RME Hammerfall and it is the most stable interface I've ever used.
