Took the plunge and couldnt get past disc 1...
Well, I took the plunge last night after getting all of my drivers updated on everything before loading Sonar X1. The first disc took almost an hour to load and before it could go to the next one the install was stopped due to a missing dll file. I'm not that computer savvy but I know these are darned important. I didnt have to wherewithall to copy the note specifying which dll it was. So I aborted the install, deleted everything I could find, and went back to Sonar 8 studio which loaded almost perfectly. The Rapture synth could not be installed for some reason. Any ideas on where to go next. My rig is in my signature and I have Windows 7 home 64 bit loaded. All updates are current, Mobo, hard drives are newly installed, and no other programs aside from Roxio are on the machine thus far. Thank you in advance... Me

you said "disc 1" so I assume this is a physical disk and not a download, correct? if so, the first thing I'd look at would be your DVD drive. what type of drive do you have? IDE? SATA? internal? external? do you have another drive you can try?

Yes the physical disc I have two identical sata drives. I plan on trying again this evening. I'll switch drives and see if that changes anything.

Yes, I would definitely do as Beagle suggested. I had trouble with disc 1 as well. Not sure why, since my DVD drive is definitely up-to-date. In any case, I was able to make a backup copy of the DVD and then install from the copy. Scott -- Scott R. Garrigus - Author of the Cakewalk Sonar and Sony Sound Forge Power book series. Thank You, Scott :) I am going to do everything I can this evening. I just surprised me that a single disc took almost an hour to load. Is that normal for this new release? Ive been a loyal cakewalk user since 2004 and all of my versions were installed on brand new machines. This is the first time I have ever had a hiccup. I'm pretty positive that all will be well and am just itching to try out the new features and get back to making music . I am also so looking forward to recieving my copy of your X1 book (should be here today). Thanks guys :)

Hi Mick, What happens when a DVD drive can't read a disc is it will slow down the spinning of the disc so that it can possibly read it better. That may be what's happening there. I know that's what happened with mine and I had to make a backup copy to get it to work better. Thanks very much! I hope you enjoy the book. Scott -- Scott R. Good news, I got X1 to load properly :) Whether it works or not will be found out tomorrow. You were right in that my cdrom drive was the problem. Turns out they were not identical, one was slower than the other. I switched drives on the install and it was fast. The only hitch I came across was in loading the Dimension disc 3 which asked for a seriel, and the envelope doesnt have one. So I'll contact the cake people to get one. The other seriels were on one envelope except that one. Ah well... Thanks guys for your help :)

Many had issues with installing Dim Pro, I didn't-but I never used the new disks-just the 1.5 update from the site. Already had dim pro from 853.

Beagle good deal, Mick. on the dim pro SN, I got mine in an email from cake, but as stratman says, it's also in your e-store acct. I registered everything day before yesterday, but nothing has shown up in my store account beyond my address. So i'm waiting to see if Dim-Pro shows up in the next few days so I can actually load the disc and play with it. Just sucks that there was no seriel # on the envelope it came in. Me
