CWAF?

I'm cleaning some house and I notice the CWAF I have (4.0.4.72) craps out on newer projects. I had assumed X1 would update it automagically. (sigh)

I'm logging into the store right now to see if I can find the most recent, but anyone know what it is/how to get it?

Now that's odd, when I open the CWAF from X1 itself, it seems to open the same program (as I can tell by the "Supported Project Version: 18.0.1.xxx" tag) but now it works.

It's Cakewalk Audio Finder. It finds the audio used in project files.Look it up in the help files.

Thanks Will. I know what it is and what it does. The problem is older versions won't read current projects and thus their audio files.

It's installed in the Shared Utilities folder, and can be invoked outside of SONAR as a separate app, but oddly when started like that it won't read 8.5 and X1 project files. When started from within X1 via the Utilities menu it does. I just confirmed it's the same app (ie, not a dupe from somewhere else on the drive) but it's strange behavior.

Oh well, I got my orphans moved to a separate location pending confirmation they're orphans before deletion.

I see this as a great place for process improvement.

I reckon an easy and good fix would be if you could run it from the audio files property inside a project, have it scan the remaining audio folder for that project and allow you to manage the files from there. Not global but it would allow confident and easy per project management until a more robust set of asset mgmt tools comes around.

I have a similar view Wicked.. There should be an option to only check the current project and assume that all audio in it's folder is related to said project.

I have Sonar set up to make a new folder for each project, the files in that folder obviously come from that project, it's a waste of time checking my whole system for the possibility that any of the files are referenced by any other project.

I see it on the windows menu as a separate program. What would it's use be?

PS: my apologies if I misunderstood you Wicked. not my intent to label or judge anybody.

    Thanks guys for the info

No worries Will, you never can tell when someone hasn't done their own homework.

@Kurtly: yah. I use a somewhat modified version of per project audio folders as I keep my project files in a separate location. I keep all the audio in a global Audio folder/drive sub-categorized by project. This way I can quickly view all my project files but still have all the audio gathered properly.

CWAF works the same way with this method...when it er...works.
