Copy Reason midi "Kong" to Sonar?

I have created a midi drum track in Reason (130+ bars) and I want to get that into Sonar. Is there a way to copy/paste? Export/Import?

I'd like to get it in there as I still have some editing to do but would like to finish in Sonar with the other tracks. I didn't think about this before I started...

Been doing websearches and no luck...

Thanks,

You need to search differently maybe...

    "export midi reason/kong"
    "export audio reason/kong"
    "import midi sonar"
    "import audio sonar"

Found some very interesting tutorials on Sonar and Reason but nothing that has solved this problem....

Well, I imported my midi into Sonar after exporting it from Reason.....and instead of drums....I get a piano lol.

I've tried some other ways (copy/paste), rewire, etc. but I can't get the midi I created in Reason 5 to play in Sonar X1 as a drum kit.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

Well, the MIDI is just data, if you want to reconstitute it as drums just load up your drum VST of choice and route it to it.

I otherwise don't know of an easy way to slurp MIDI from Reason into SONAR. Obviously you can ReWire them together and bounce the audio down into SONAR, but MIDI I think is an export/import process.

Reason has no MIDI out. You can get MIDI into it and audio out of it, using ReWire, and that's basically it. I've pretty much decided not to give them any more money until they decide to let their otherwise excellent software interface with the rest of the world. MIDI is now something like 30 years old, I think it's reasonable enough to expect premium audio production software to include a fairly complete and flexible implementation.

How many pads in Kong are you using?
Are all of the Kong sounds you're using: are they drum hits, drum loops or both?
What VSTI in Sonar did you plan to transpose this drum track to from Reason's Kong?

If the MIDI track you exported from Reason contains just the Kong MIDI data and it is playing piano in Sonar, you need to find out which VSTI in SOnar you want the MIDI data to play and configure it with the sounds you used in Kong.

Rewire?.. or bounce it to audio in reason and import into sonar...

And you should beable to rroute midi tracks from sonar into reason when in rewire mode...

But i have no idea what your trying to do....

    Reason has no MIDI out...

Are you serious--???? And they call it "Reason"--- omg, now that's maybe even worse than the X1 debacle.  Sure wins some sort of prize.  Exporting MIDI is like basic MIDI 101 stuff that could be done on the humblest of hardware sequencers back when there was no MIDI on computers--Yikes!

"Reason"--must mean--"the reason we're laughing all the way to the bank about suckers who think our software is hip."  whoooosh!

Randy, Reason does have an export MIDI function. The post you are quoting said there was no MIDI output port. You can export the MIDI file, complete with all of its automation parameters.

Ok, update. I gave up on Reason and decided to use session drummer 3 in Sonar. Had to redo everything but with the step sequencer, it wasn't too bad and since i'm not trying to rewire Reason anymore, I can now use the 64 bit version of Sonar X1.

    SWJTX99: 6 but would it make a difference if it were 7? 2? 26?
Are all of the Kong sounds you're using: are they drum hits, drum loops or both?

What VSTI in Sonar did you plan to transpose this drum track to from Reason's Kong?

Being you redid everything in Sonar with SD3 there isn't a need to answer your questions above. I was going to help you do it possibly with less work, but I'm glad you got it all going.

Thanks for the followup but yea, it does not look like creating sounds in reason is a good idea if you eventually intend to use them in another sequencer. Now if I had rewired Reason and used it within Sonar from the beginning, maybe that would have been different. That way the midi data would exist in Sonar but played through Reason....If I understand it all correctly.
